Default My Weekend at Finger Lakes

I just had an exhausting but totally enjoyable weekend horse shopping at Finger Lakes! Louise was an angel and walked me around barn to barn for several hours showing me horses and introducing me to trainers. Everyone there was extremely friendly and easy to deal with; they went out of their way to show their horses several times if I asked. I've been to a lot of different tracks and that is not always the case! It is an absolute beautiful part of the country too, so I would highly recommend a trip up there if you've never been. And that is coming from someone who drove over 1500 miles this weekend!

I have my eye on a horse there, but there were so many others I would love to bring home! Shawklit Sister is probably at the top of the list. You can't really see it in the pictures, but she has the kindest expression I've even seen! I went in her stall and visited with her...what a sweet, sweet filly...she will certainly put to rest all the rumors about chestnut mares! She is gorgeous too; nice wide body. I bet she will make someone an awesome sport horse!

Rockywithattitude was right up there too...he's got the big kind eyes and was a nicely put together young horse. He really seemed like a sweetheart and if I win the lottery in the next couple of weeks, he will no longer be available!

Somewhereinbetween was really cute too; I really liked the way she was put together and she had a very pleasant expression. I bet what she lacks in size she would make up for in heart!

There were so many others too...I can't remember all the names. Anyone looking for a winter project or horse for themselves should definitely check out the website. I got 2 last year and both worked out wonderfully.

Thanks Louise (and the 2 volunteers whose names I can't remember!) for all your help; you are doing a great job for these wonderful animals!

I really enjoyed escorting caryledee around the track on Saturday. She is a lovely person, with an eye for a good horse. Poor thing, I dragged her around to barn after barn, not only to show her horses on the listings, but to quiz some of the trainers to see if they had a horse that might meet her requirements.

The horse she has her eye on is a knockout. I'm really hoping that everything works out because I think that the two of them would be a great match.

Now, don't forget that, with an appointment, we'll be more than happy to take you serious buyers around for 2 1/2 or 3 hours of looking for just the right horse.

I will definitely post pictures and give details when it is a done deal. I've got my fingers and toes crossed this morning!!

Louise, I appreciate your help so much! It was great to have someone who knew the trainers and could steer me in the right direction! I totally enjoyed my trip up there!

Can't wait to hear the details!!! (and see some pics, of course!)

God bless all the volunteers who work so hard to match these horses up with new owners!

We who live near FL are blessed to have this gem in our back yard. Never would I have thought that a track that size (I consider it a small one) would have such wonderful prospects. We've been there and brought home horses many, many times and each and every one of them have been awesome. I strongly encourage anyone who is looking for a horse to check them out. And those volunteers work very hard too!

No, Ishi, after all of the interest generated on COTH last week, Somewhereinbetween's owner only got one call. That person was coming to look at her on Saturday, so, keep your fingers crossed!

Well, there is one update regarding caryledee. But, I think it should be up to her to announce it, or not, as she chooses.

The only reason I am holding back is because I am superstitious! But the check is in the mail, the shippers have been booked and if all goes well there will be a beautiful FL gelding calling Kentucky home next week!

Congrats! The FL horses are lovely.

I really shouldn't be asking, but.. did you happen to see Outskip? If so, what did you think of her? I've had my eye on her ever since she was posted. I do not need another horse, I do not need another horse, I do not need another horse...

I know...I have four. One from MD, one from Finger Lakes and two from Suffolk Downs. I'm not allowed to go to the track anymore.

I'll see your four...and I'll raise you one (well, by next week I will!) One is from the days before the Internet, when you had to find horses through the (gasp!) newspaper or word of mouth. The other four...one is from CANTER, one from Friends of Ferdinand, and two will be from FL. I just keep telling myself they are INVESTMENTS!!
