The rider is out. They're digging a trench to try to walk the horse out of the hole right now.

It's warm out right now - maybe a tad cooler where they are, but you notice people are wiping sweat off their faces.

Horse was standing upright and looking in direction of the backhoe when feed was lost. He didn't seem distressed, but is possibly tranq'd and (hopefully due to the dust!) blindfolded. Backhoe guy/girl was being very careful.

How did it get in - ground gave way? Sinkhole? Can't view tape.

horse and rider both fell in, unsure how it happened. Rider has minor injuries. They just got the horse out now and appears to be ok. they did tranqualize him.

They are saying that they got lucky that a construction crew was working just down the road and when they heard came right up with the backhoe and got to work rescuing the horse. Kudos to that construction team for jumping right in to help!

PINAL COUNTY, AZ – Fire crews are in an area just north of Florence trying to rescue a horse after it fell into a hole Thursday morning.

Chuck Fitzgerald with Rural Metro said a horse carrying a male rider fell hind first into the hole near Arizona Farms Road and Felix before 9 a.m.

Crews dug a trench in an effort to walk the horse out of the hole from overhead Air15 and have been trying to pull the horse out with a rope.

Crews have starting digging a second trench.

If I were in the neighborhood, I'd be bringing those guys coffee and donuts in the morning! And probably a case of beer in the afternoon.

Hope the horse turns out to be fine.
