Default Fillies are SMART! Maya's first trim! (No photos, just an observation)

I recently purchased two new babies, Logan and Maya.

Logan is simply a dream-he does no wrong

Maya was unhandled until last Wednesday-she was haltered, weaned and came home to me on Thursday.

Needless to say, the thought of her first trim was....daunting!

Today she balanced herself middle of the stall (no leaning on walls for this clever cookie). She lifted her little hoof when asked and nicely held it while I rasped a bit on each one.

Is this what I have been missing all these years?

    Man, girls are smart!

Mares are very smart, you're just lucky to have one who uses her intelligence for good instead of figuring out ways to get around what you ask

My filly taught herself to tie. As in the first time I tried, and she got to the end of the rope, she stepped forward and that was that. She will stand tied for an hour at a time. Now trimming her hooves, or trotting in-hand... She's always trying to figure out some crafty way to avoid it. But, I can worm her or vaccinate her in the pasture with no halter, and she follows me back to the barn.

Once you've gone filly/mare, you'll never go back

amen! You can do what ever with a gelding... not so much with a mare... but once she is willing to do what ever with you... you are golden!
If i'm posting on Coth, it's either raining so I can't ride or it's night time and I can't sleep.

I'm not so sure it is a filly/colt thing, as Dinky was "born broke", too.

He has always been trained by doing. For example, the first time I loaded him on the trailer, I just walked on. So did he. That was that.

Congratulations, it's fun, isn't it? I always say I earned him, one naughty horse at a time...

Yes...now just pray that she continues to use her smarts for good, not evil.
