It was on the Sportscenter highlights after it happened. I laughed for about 20 minutes. 'Course, I was uh... well, drowning my sorrows after we lost to UCLA...

Not sure if it's still the same horse, but I helped take care of the Cavalier horse a few years ago when she colicked. Wish I could remember her name... started with a T. Anyway, she was quite nice.

We had a mounted Cavalier my first year there (1976--- now I am aging myself!) That was back in the day when the football team stunk, the Pep Band was alive and well, and the game was just another good excuse to get rowdy. One of our polo players rode a pony from the team- but then they decided there was too much liability so discontinued the practice- who would've thunk the danger was to the Cav?

You have to admit, even though he fell off pretty easily, his remount was way cool-lots of spring, no stirrup!

RoyalTRider posted some photos she took from the game earlier. Totally cracked me up

haha - I did see that! That rider didn't try too hard to stay on. When I was there I saw the horse really freak out once and the guy stuck on there like glue. I was generally always impressed with how quiet the horse was! On a not so funny note, why is our football team so terrible again this year?

Those were the days! I didn't get there until '78, but we'd sing the Good Old Song for 1st downs. And the Pep Band was the real reason to go...

Seriously, my 1st year, we were 1-11 (though apparently the 1 was not, as was often related, against the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind). good times.

    Wahoo-wa!

Oh no! That's Kim K.- he's a polo player and, presuming the same horse, a polo pony (quite bomb proof). I got to help Kim at a game when his wife wasn't free. Really cool to be on the field with the players (man, they are huge IRL!).
And yes- our team stinks, again- any chance we can get Groh out?!

Ah, I remember- "Hokie Hokie Hokie High......."

What, they dont sing the Good Old Song after first downs anymore? Back in the day, first downs were few and far between- any reason was good enough to celebrate! At least we had basketball: after Wally Walker came Marc Iavaroni, Jeff Lamp, Jeff Jones, Ralph Sampson.........

I'm so old that the football team wasn't the Hokies, it was the Gobblers. Ever try to make a fierce-looking TURKEY for a pep rally ?
