The harness is just plain nylon on the less expensive junior version.

it's totally because i want to pay a lot more for a suede/microsuede/whateveritis harness/chinstrap instead of a nylon one.

Yup! I work at a tack store and we sell a lot of Jr8's to kids and their parents who want the safety and look of a CO but on a budget. It's the same helmet as the Gr8 but without the suede chinstrap.

I just got the JR8 I ordered. I haven't had the chance to ride in it, yet. Just trying it on, it feels a lot more comfortable than the old (unapproved) IRH helmets I have. They start to get painful after about half an hour. I can't believe how light weight it is. This is my first approved helmet, so I feel a bit like Gazoo (the alien friend in the Flintstones), but I think it looks as good as one of the approved helmets is going to look. I can't wait to ride in it and see if it still feels OK when I've had it on for awhile. I will certainly feel safer. As you can imagine, my old helmets are so old, I don't know how old they really are, so I really needed to replace them. I just couldn't pay several hundred dollars for a helmet, so the JR8 seemed the right choice. It looks stylish at fairly reasonable price.
