I decided to take my sons horse to a local schooling show tomorrow and do a couple classes. It's been a while since I've actually competed. I've been on the sidelines coaching both of my sons and my students for the past couple years. I'm only going for fun and to just get out there again but I still can't help but be nervous. My 9 year old son is going with me and he said he'll be my coach . Any advice would be appreciated.
Go and have a GREAT time! I'm sure your son will be a fabulous coach. There's a short circuit show at the Warrenton showgrounds tomorrow with a "long stirrup" class which I think adults can ride in. 4 jumps at 18" -- it's a great way to get back into it. and even if you just show up and school you should have fun!
I know EXACTLY how you feel. After being out of showing for about 15 years, I got three OTTB's (long story). I am getting the show bug and one of them is ready for the walk/trot and more to just see how he would do at the little schooling show.
And nervous as all get out!
I know how you feel. But come on, we can show em that things get better with age!
