Man dies after falling from horse in Greene County
    Posted: Aug 10, 2009 12:52 PM EDT

GREENEVILLE (AP) -- Greene County authorities say a man has died after falling from a horse.

A report by a Greene County sheriff's deputy says someone dropped off Timothy Hartman, 47, at Tina Cobble's home on Saturday night.

Hartman told Cobble he fell from a horse and his ribs hurt, but he refused to go to a hospital.

WGRV Radio reported that when Hartman felt worse early Sunday, Cobble persuaded him to seek medical treatment, but he collapsed as she helped him to a truck.

An ambulance was called and Hartman was pronounced dead at Takoma Regional Hospital.

    No autopsy was planned.

Sad that he declined medical attention. Probably would have saved his life. I do wonder why an autopsy wouldn't be performed..

Unless the local medical examiner declares it a "coroner's case" it's the next of kin's call if an autopsy will or won't be performed.

This is less a "be careful, don't fall" than a "if you've fallen and you're in pain, go to the doctor!"

It's east TN. He fell off, he died. Why waste resources trying to figure out exactly which organ got punctured or whatever? It won't do any good... Won't bring him back, or help anyone else in the future.

I always thought that an autopsy was performed to prove cause of death that was not specific. What would be on the Death Certificate as cause of death? "Fell off horse"?

In this case, yes he did fall off, but what was the exact cause of his death?

How do we know that Tina Cobble didn't kill him...then *claimed* He told her he fell off a horse?? lol
