What type of reins do you ride with? I don't have full use of my left hand and I am currently using brown rubber reins I borrowed from my jumper rider friend. They look quite lovely with my black bridle and sparkly browband I like the reins, but they are a bit too thick and don't allow my fingers to fully close, but they provide grip and don't slide through my fingers.

Any brand recommendations for rubber reins? How are the reins that are rubber on one side and plain leather on the other side? Is there an option out there that is better then rubber? Have any of you tried the KL Select reins that are really gummy and flexible?

If you like rubber reins, but not the thickness, I suggest you look into either the Eventa reins or the soft grip.

I have nice Vespucci rubber reins on my show horse's bridle. I got a cheap ($90-ish) Amigo bridle for my baby horse, and it came with rubber reins. I've seen the Amigo reins sold separately for $40-ish. The bridle leather I can tell is not the same quality as the more expensive bridles, but it's not bad for the price. And the reins... I can't tell any difference at all!!! They feel the same as my expensive reins, maybe just a pinch thinner. If you decide to go with regular rubber reins, definitely check out the Amigo brand!

Thanks so much for the help. I shattered my ring finger and said finger doesn't really work despite surgery and screws. I have nerve damage in the hand as well, so I'm in a pretty tough place. I will look into all the mentioned reins.

I fell in complete and utter love with the KL select rubber reins that are just rubber, not rubber covering leather. They are just the right thickness and don't hurt my finger! I had a credit with Thinlne, so I used it toward pair of their reins. Naturally, the reins arrived the day of my accident and they were intended to be used on the mare I no longer own! Once I am back in the saddle, I will try out the Thinline reins and let you guys know what I think. I hope they're as awesome as the KL select reins. Hmmm...now I just need to find a horse to use the reins on and a way to get better FAST!!!

I use similar rein for my left hand. It is a leather loop attached to plain rein by a conway buckle. There are holes punched about every inch for adjust ability.
