Default Looking for a driving trainer near Raleigh, NC

I'm going to be moving to the Raleigh area soon and would like to get hooked up with someone to give me driving lessons, maybe put my horse into some more driving training, and will need help fitting her with a harness and cart eventually.

Can anyone recommend an experienced trainer in the area? Link to anyone's website? TIA

I just got a notice from ADS about a show in Raleigh the last weekend in August. That would be a good place to meet folks. You should be able to get contact info from the ADS site.
CCC has been having Tom Simmons down for lesson for a few months. I really like him. A friend has a pony there in training. I think you can find his site if you google him.

Many people from the Raleigh area come down to Southern Pines for training, lessons, etc. - in ALL equine disciplines. We are blessed with many top trainers Of course I'd recommend our trainer, Bill Long, 6 time National 4-in-Hand Champion and currently vying for spot at the WEG 2010 (his team has already been qualified).

His rates are reasonable and he can provide the whole package. He can train your horse and you both plus he can assist you with equipment. He's a talented craftsman who can adjust/fix/fabricate just about anything! And he's a super nice guy, too

You can contact him at llong6@nc.rr.com

You might try DeDe Bushneck. She's located right outside of Raleigh.

    Default Dede bushneck

I second Dede Bushneck ! She taught my first 3 driving horses and me how to drive. She also rides and hunts and her lessons are always positive and build confidence. She trained a jr driver to the USEF Horse of the year national championship in pleasure driving and is an ADS pleasure show judge and is by far the best cones driver i have ever seen !!

She is just south of Raleigh in Apex.

Second the recommendation to touch base with the Southern Pines crowd. In addition to Bill, Randy and Keady Cadwell are here - my neighbor works with them and finds it a good fit for her. I train with Craig Kellogg, who is absolutely terrific - he is also a pleasure, CDE and coaching judge.

Didn't know that Cindy trained... but she's a good driver. And she trains with Bill Long Guess we're really spoiled in this area. Randy and Keady have done some great clinics to benefit the Pony Teams and they've been immensely helpful to me. And I can't begin to list the number of local experts who've offered great tips and tricks. The likes of Bob Cook (Cindy's dad), Russell Munro, Tommy Doonan, Craig Kellogg, Marcie Quist......

Why don't you come down to the Southern Pines CDE April 15-17 at the Carolina Horse Park. You could meet some of the trainers, watch them and/or their students perform, and figure out who might be the best fit for you?
