Default Need PPE Vet recommendation in MI

I am going horse shopping in Holland, MI (near Grand Rapids) and Hamburg, MI (near Ann Arbor) and wanted to get the names of some reasonably priced but still reputable vets for a PPE on a dressage warmblood.

    Thanks for any suggestions

I'll check w/ a girlfriend who lives in GR. I would have a list for you in the Lansing area, but not in the areas you mentioned.

    John Berends in Middleville www.equiventuresfarm.com
    Equine Medical in Lowell www.equinemedical.com

Dr. Berends is coming to see my horse next Tuesday (I live 5 miles from Holland) so he will be in the area. Let me know if I can help.

In the Holland area another possibility is Dr. Jim Connell out of Allegan, he goes to the Holland area on Thursdays. And for around Ann Arbor the only one I know is Dr. Irving, who's a great leg man. PM me if you want their contact info.

My friend recommended Dr. Jim Connell (for your Holland horse)

Kern Road Vet -- Dr Esterline or any of the others. In Fowlerville, MI. Will do the Hamburg area.

Agreed, and try to get Esterline if you can (there are half a dozen equine vets at Kern Road). Dr. Steve Rymal, who has an independent practice and a semi-closed client list, would be even better but he's super busy and may not be able to squeeze in a PPE. Never hurts to ask though.

While I am familiar with most of the SE Michigan vets recommended and think all of them are very competent, if this is a very expensive horse, I would make arrangements to ship to MSU and see Dr. Van Wessum.

Is that the sacral/spine guru from Europe who tells everyone their horse needs 6 months off? Not dissing the guy really, but everyone I know who's sent a horse to him comes back with the same recommendation: stall rest/limited turnout, 6 months off.

Another vote for Kern Road. Can't remember the vet right now, but had a long distance PPE done, and they were very helpful, truthful, gave good recommendations, spoke in laymans terms for a complicated issue. Consulted with my vet, etc. Did not end up buying the horse.
