I didn't see the ESPN coverage, but I saw the race replay on Bloodhorse. Thorn Song bolted really badly. Scary to watch.

Thorn Song is such a beautiful horse; I hope he can get over his issues.

    Default Thorn Song

I watched the race on ESPN. Thorn Song's move was unbelievable. I can't believe the jockey stayed on or that no one got hurt.

I missed it altogether. Just watched the video. Too bad as he seems very talented.

The same thing happened here at MNR a week or two ago. Von Mises was the 10 horse going long on the turf, got the early lead and went straight into the first turn. Jesus Barria had to scrape him along the paint of the outside rail to get him stopped.

Default It was his first race with a new trainer [Thorn song]

and the trainer, [name escapes me, but Glimmer will know!] said he wanted to 'open up' the blinkers, but this is the result. Bet they don't try that again. The guys on TVG said he had done that several times over the years, [I was back and forth with ESPN and TVG,] but apparently, it wasn't unknown for him to do that.

Mike Mitchell appears to have replaced Dale Romans as the trainer...

It was a lucky break that horse didn't go through the outer rail...

I worked with thorn song when he was with dale, and he quickly became one of my favorites. Gorgeous critter. Hope his new trainer can get him figured out!

    Default To Timex

Is it somewhat common knowlege that TS would behave that way if his blinkers were modified? Did anyone pass that knowlege on to MM?

It was a suprise to me that thorn bolted so badly, its not something I would have expected to see. Not sure if that's something that anyone else would have imagined he would do. I'm also not sure how much dale played with thorns blinkers. As for whether or not any sort of info would be passed along, whether about the blinkers, shoes, whatever, think about it, would you give your competitor an edge? Not sure how that trainer change came about, but they aren't always amicable, so info doesn't always get passed along. And even when it does, a lot of trainers think they know better than the last guy, and ignore it anyway.
