I am considering breeding my TB mare to an ID (the foal is for me personally) I would like to add some height and substance but dont want to create a dauchson she is 15'3 and 8 3/4 cannon size. I ride casually and also do lower level stuff.
I read good things on here about Rhyds Sea Quest adding size to TB mares. Is this thought still true? Is there any other stallions that do?

I really like Rhyds Sea Quest

He looks to be producing really nice foals and I'm a fan of that family. His full brother in Ireland Sir Rivie is a Grade A Showjumper and a real lovely athletic sort. Friends of ours have had foals by Sir Rivie and they've just been really really nice so I do really like that family and what it produces.

Is this her first foal, as I personally try to avoid too big with a smallish mare and 1st foal. I would suggest looking at Bridon Belfrey - her tends to add height. On my website you can see my pure bred colt by him. I bred my TB mare to him this year as I am so pleased with what he added www.benmarfarm.com

You might also look at Cradillo - hes doing Grand Prix and has some nice offspring on the ground. Because hes doing so well, his stud fee will be increasing next year, so might be a good bargain to boot this year.

I also love my Dandelion Diamond Rebel IDSH, but at 17 hh he may be larger than you want (he does tend to throw his size). My yearling is out of a 15.2-15.3 mare (not her first foal) He was 14.3 at 1 year

I have seen Rhyd's Sea Quest many times. He is a very nice looking stallion. He is not a bulky as many of them, but they say he is 17h. He is a very big 17h! He is very pretty and have a very pretty face, not the typical 'Irish' face. If you like him, I would contact the stallion owner and ask what size foals he usually throws. Some stallions throw small foals that grow big, some throw big that grow small, some throw small that grow small, some throw big that grow big. If your mare is a maiden, you don't want to breed her to a big 17h stallion that throws big foals for her first foal.

I will get ahold of the stallion owners to find out about foal size. I love both dandelion diamond rebel and rhyds sea quest. I havent commited in my mind to breeding her. As much as I would love to get a foal from her( shes been one of my favorite mares)...I am just not sure the babe will be what I want in the size department. Ive been waffling on breeding her for a few years...but seeing Rhyds SQ today ....Crikey! hes fantastic looking.
I have a purebred Glenlara filly that is 2. I dont plan on breeding her for several years and seriously thought of using Cradilo on her when I do.. I hope he continues to do well. I think they will compliment each other nicely (my filly is a natural born jumper)

Dana, I just took a look at your website again...cant wait to see your Gatsby/Laurel foal. That cross is something I will be interested in seeing. Very interested.
In the meantime did you consider your foal out of Conor to be a big foal when born?

Thanks, send a few breeding jingles, Laurel didn't catch 1st time, so we look for our black dot Friday. The Conor foal was wide - the shoulders were tough to pass. She was very bruised from that foaling. Hence my hesitation for a maiden. But I am sure pleased with the result and hope to repeat it at some point. I really like Moorpark Image babies. He adds bone, but isn't massive enough to make them unathletic. His babies are in the 16.1-16.3 hand range (or are looking to mature at that height), so he does sire a bit larger than himself. They seem to be good movers too. One of his sons out of a TB mare is getting started under saddle at the barn, and he has big gaits with a lot of spring, but not a ton of knee action. http://www.abbeymoorfarm.com/Site/Stallion.html

Corcullen is another one that sires athletic foals. He is very big though (17 hands), so if she's a maiden mare, he may or may not work out. Cradilo is a big guy, if you are worried about size. Awesome boy, but big.

I am in absolute loff with my colt by Its The Luck Of The Irish - very sweet and docile. Nice jumper lines too!

Another one to have a look at is Steeped in Luck. He is a beautiful horse, lovely temperament, competing in dressage right now - and the foals I have seen out of Thoroughbred mares have been lovely.

I was told he retired from breeding outside mares? Oh well, this is good news for him!!

Well, I have a fondness for O'leary's Irish Diamond. Tiki has 2 outstanding fillies from him, and I have 2 with those lines and love them to death. He has proven himself in sport, but also his offspring - which is a huge bonus for an ID stud.

My gelding is what I would call sheer power. I've never ridden anything quite like him, he is incredibly light and rides VERY uphill and really uses his hind end. I have several I'm riding right now, and when I get on him - I can't quite explain the feeling other than I know I have a TON of horse under me. Our filly is a yearling a much more modern but she has the same power, that hind end and jump. She LOVES to jump, and goes out of her way to jump the XC jumps in her field all the time.
