Sorry, another jacket thread... But this one has a twist! I have a 14.3 hand connemara cross, who, to be frank is probably too small for me. He is a homebred though, and I adore him, so I show him anyways.
My question is concerning jacket colours with this little horse. He is grey, and I have always shown him wearing my brown windowpane jacket. I recently bought a very pretty navy pinstripe though, and wore it with him the last time we showed. I am a little worried, however, that the navy makes my upper body look that much taller on him, whereas the brown is not such a stark contrast. When I first looked at the pictures, all I saw was DARK leg and DARK jacket on a tiny horse. Now that I have gotten used to seeing the jacket, it is not quite so startling. That being said, I wonder if it is just growing on me, and my first reaction had some substance to it.
Without further ado, pictures to help the COTH community decide for me:
I could see you fitting on a larger horse, but don't think you too big for him. He's very cute. I'm partial to a pretty grey, anyway. I like the navy jacket on him best. It is a bolder picture than the brown.
Check out that auto release! Both coats look great. I'm a fan of navy, but I think I like the brown a little better.
Me too I love the Brown, and he is an adorable horse!! Oh an one more thing, CUDOS for showing a horse you obviously love no matter how big or small he is, the fact that you love your horse and enjoy the challange of riding and showing shine through in your post!!!
If you are lucky enough to ride, you are lucky enough.
Thanks very much for the feedback, and for the compliments on my little horse. He's a pretty special little guy, to me anyways, and it makes me so happy to hear nice things about him. His size isn't as evident until you see a head-on picture. He's only about as wide as a fence board, in fact, that's what a good friend of mine calls him - a very athletic fence board.
It's nice to know too that neither jacket looks funny. I'll have to try the navy out a few more times with him and see if it grows on me. It is a little heavier than my brown jacket, so maybe it can be our cooler weather coat.
Both jackets are lovely!
However, if you are looking for a combination that will "make you look smaller/shorter" the navy works a bit better for that -
The navy (or any dark color) separates your upper body from the lower by its contrast from your beige breeches. That "break" should make each piece - torso/legs - appear shorter than if everything flows together (as in no/little contrast between them).
