hip huggers causing pain?
and I am not talking about husbands
I dug up this par of jeans I had bought in desperation when nothing would really fit, they are kinda low rise, and since I've been wearing them I got horrible backpain, very low, almost the tailbone and a tingly aching sensation in my legs, especially from the knees down. I did not do a lot of digging, it's been raining, but a lot of bending over while trying a thorough spring clean up...(the weather could be to blame, too?)
I am in pain, not bad enough to scream, but not comfortable at all!

I would blame the activity, not the pants.

I've had low rise jean bruise and cause pain at my hip bones, but certainly no lower.
I agree with dwave--it's likely the bending over that's stretching tight muscles/tendons/ligaments.

Could be the jeans... throw them out. No one looks good in low rise jeans anyways.

I've had low rise jeans that made my sciatica flare up something wicked. Chaps too. I think the wiastband/ strap in the back they pressed on a nerve.

I'm very tall, and getting riding breeches to stay up where they belong was always a problem. By the end of a long day in breeches my back/hips were killing me because of the constant downward pressure, a belt just intensified it. I'd blame the jeans!

I'd throw those evil pants out. I had a really cute pair of jeans that just about crippled me. I've always wanted to use the phrase "my scaitica is acting up"

With the belt hitched really tight, it gives me hip problems as well as gut problems. Besides, unless you are really slender, most people end up with muffin tops hanging over and that looks really bad.
I do admit though that I love the skinny legs on them.
I'm a traditionalist - low rise pants have no place in the show ring anyway. Schooling is one thing but why would you want to always be in danger of showing some crack? EWW! And what you said - unless you are skinny and 12, you probably shouldn't wear them. What shocks me is that most people who do for some reason never look at the back view, and it ain't pretty!

My problem is trying to buy JUST PLAIN JEANS, without a low-rise, without flared bottoms, long enough, and made of honest-to-God DENIM instead of blue tissue paper. The only kind I've found that fit the bill are Wrangler cowgirl cut ones (I can only find them on the internet), and those are too nice to wear in the barn.
Sorry to derail. Definitely NOT missing the icky, acid-washed, skin tight and up-to-your chest styles I grew up wearing but dang--just give me some plain old barn jeans that don't have any particular STYLE to them. Then I won't feel so bad beating the snot out of them.
Deltawave, I just picked up 2 pr of Gloria Vanderbilt (sp) jeans at BJ's for 15.95. They are a decent fit but are on the thin side but still should hold up to the barn beatings we give them for at least one summer. They come in short, med and tall lengths but you have to get them when they are first put out or your size is gone. They fit at your waist and are stretch to boot and no muffin top is hanging over.
I used to always by Land's End jeans but they have been going to lower rise. I can honestly say that the GV jeans are generally a decent fit but are made very cheaply so don't expect to get more than 1 season out of them. They also have corduroy jeans which are great for winter. I've never been one to buy cheap clothes but for barn wear, who cares at this point. I'm sure not going to buy designer jeans for cleaning stalls and mowing fields.

I've been wearing Gloria Vanderbilts (bought really cheap from garage sales!) to the barn because they are stuff I don't care if I wear out. They don't really fit right anyway so it's better they take the abuse than the inexpensive-bought-on-sale-for-$9.99 guy's Rustler jeans that actually fit.

I was so glad to see hiphugger pants come back as they actually fasten aroudn my waist instead of Steve Urkle height. I can see where the OP is getting back pain from low rise jeans as regular rise give me a pain across mid back if I try to not look an old hiphop wannabe. My suggestion is try wearing something soft like sweats for jobs that require a lot of bending.

I have low rise jeans, but not the ultra low rise. I buy low rise because I have a short waist, and they fit better (no gappiness around the waist, etc.) However, I've never had pain from them.

I think we are about the same age!!!
I remember getting my first pair of Sassoons!!!! I thought I was soooooooooo cool!!!!
Unfortunately, I was much more comfy in my Wranglers-- which made me decidedly uncool-- that is until the most popular girl in school won the National High School Rodeo Queen Crown, at which time Wrangler sponsored, and supplies her with a crapload of Cowgirl Cuts---pretty soon, the WHOLE FRIGGIN SCHOOL is wearin Wranglers!!!! Finally, I was cool!!
