Donation information for flood relief for North Dakota/Minnesota
Special Horses (www.SpecialHorses.org) is coordinating efforts for equine victims of the disastrous floods in North Dakota and Minnesota.
The North Dakota State University Foundation (501c3) has set up a special fund for the flood victims. Checks that are sent need to be made out directly to the NDSU Development Foundation and should be marked for Flood Horse Victims. The website is set up to handle online donations - again, donors should be sure to designate that the money is for the flood horses.
At present, the Equine Sciences Department at North Dakota State University is coordinating the incoming horses to the University from evacuated areas. With hundreds of horses arriving in the next 24-48 hours, hay supplies will immediately become desperately low and hay supplies for 2009 in the flood path will most likely be lost. Volunteers, businesses and individuals interested in donating hay, trailering horses or supplies or offering temporary housing are urged to contact Special Horses to be placed on our emergency contact list.
Unfortunately, the Foundation offices are currently closed due to the flood, but hopefully will be back open on Monday.
