I want to hear from people that have purchased bike shorts, padded and nonpadded and/or equestrian underwear. What brands do you like? Do you prefer padded over nonpadded, etc.
My problem is more that underwear just drives me crazy when I am riding. It isn't so much that I get chafed although that does happen some when it is really hot out but that every single brand of underwear I have ridden in gives me wedgies or shifts and it drives me crazy! I am just one of those people that the least little thing bothers me so I am trying to find some that is comfortable, moisture wicking and that doesn't shift.
The bike and equestrian shorts/underwear aren't cheap and I don't want to spend $30 on a pair to find that they still suck as well!
I am sure this has been discussed but in my searches I couldn't find answers to these questions.
Thanks! Another question. Do the shorts and underwear that you have used seem to run true to size or small? Since they are not returnable I want to make sure I get them right!
I haven't worn bike shorts to ride in, but it has been my experience from buying cycling clothes that they tend run small. Most of the pro bikers are not heavy and often not tall.. and that is who the clothing is made for.
I find bike type exercise shorts work well as long as they have flat seams.
I have had good luck with some I have found in the gym rat section of
Target...I think they were under $15. No padding, but no wedgie and no
rubbing raw where you leg connects to your trunk.
I was put onto these during last summer's week long 'dressage day camp'.
By day 3, ALL of us were wearing 'non traditional' undergarments!
I feel for you. Currently I am nursing a wicked chafe. I haven't been able to sit anywhere remotely on a saddle for 5 days (I normally ride 6 days a week), to top of off..... I have a clinic I have been looking forward to all month.
What set it off, warm weather and sweat. Thankfully my coach has been riding the child! I will be in the saddle tomorrow. I will be taped and bound until I can find something that will work this time.
I would love to hear from all that have tried the padding! Is it really worth the money? I mean really, the prices are a little out there especially if you don't wash your underwear everynight! I actually purchased one of those gel seats I will try tomorrow, but I don't think I can show in it..anyone chime in if you know.
Try riding in men's underwear. (no one has to know). Regular cotton old fashioned men's briefs, or even the briefs with 'legs'. The crotch is built wide and the places on the leg openings are soft and no elastic to chafe. I think you'll find that you don't get wedgies near as much cuz they don't ride up.
Oh, I remember the "Inverness problem". That I think was the first time these issues came out into the forfront. Up until then, it was a suffer in silence type of thing. I can hear the old bitties gasping like it was yesterday!
What I have been finding, is somethings work for sometime then something else comes up as you are working on things...very annoying to say the least.
