Tailored Sportsman breeches ripping down the seam!
Has anyone else had a problem with this?
I have the Tailored Sportsman 2 way stretch breech, been worn maybe a dozen times (and for that price). There must have been something defective but I've had no response from the company. They ripped right down the seam! How embarassing! The whole world saw my derriere thanks to Tailored Sportsman. It wasn't like the breeches were too tight either. They would have been considered somewhat "loose fitting" on me by some standards.
I used to be a solid Tailored Sportsman fan but from now on I think I will be wearing Ariat breeches and show coats. I'm really not impressed with their customer service I've phoned them and no one has taken the liberty of calling me back. Not to mention the company directory is rather confusing now that the operator is away...

Was that before you had those french fries for lunch? Just kidding - sorry for your bad luck with the breeches, I've seen that happen before, but not with Tailored Sportsmans. Usually happens mid-course at the biggest show of the season. With your crush watching.
But I wouldn't expect a manufacturer to call you back about a problem with a product. That's the job of the store you bought them from. They should replace them.

call the store you bought it from, not the manufacturer
sorry that happened to you. how embaressing! ive never had a problem with my TS. might i ask, though, have you been dry cleaning them, or have you been throwing them in the wash? i believe the royals (the 2-ways) are only meant to be sent to the dry cleaners, and i know plenty of people throw them in the wash when it says you cant, but if you do, it probably decreases their 'life span' i guess you could call it, or at least takes away the durability--i wouldn't know why, i dont know what makes some fabrics necessary to be dry cleaned and stuff, but just a thought.

Great something else for me to stress about before I go in the ring

Too many stories about this happening. Friends have had them rip from knee patch to knee patch in the show or schooling rings. Reminds me all the time not to go commando or wear a thong!
Sorry that happened to you. I've had my 4 ways for at least 6 years now and have never had a problem.

Mine also ripped from knee patch to knee patch, as I was mounting to get back on to go into the ring. They are from last year so it's really the manufacturer.
They have only ever seen the dry cleaners, not the insides of a washing machine. I had been using them as my show/clinic breeches.

I always tend to wear the seams out. I guess I rub too hard on the pommel when I ride.
I always rip my jeans in the crotch when I bend over to fix my spur strap or lift my leg to put it in the stirrup and then my thong is hanging out. I have done that many times. Always keep an extra pair of jeans or breeches in my tack box now.

It happened to me with a pair of TSs that were pretty new. However, they had become a little snug. It was in the middle of a clinic, with auditors and in a group lesson. I was going through a grid and RRRIIIPP!! They were easy to get fixed and have actually lasted me a long time since then!!

Happened to me too The fabric just has no give and I have a weird body shape so I have to shimmy and stretch to get them to fit right and they ripped, though not too severely, I can still wear them! I had a pair rip on the butt the first time I wore them..I had fallen off, but just landed in mud! We called TS (I believe this took several attempts), sent them back (certified return receipt) and they repaired them and sold me another pair at wholesale price ($110 or so)

Unfortunately mine ripped terribly It was also terribly embarassing.
Like I said, from knee roll to knee roll and in between.
The whole world got a wonderful view of my derriere, I'm sure. It was worse because it didn't happen at home either. It was at a show with a large number of patrons.
With this being said, I'm not sure I could trust this particular pair of breeches again (and maybe not even TS breeches anymore - I have another pair and I'm not sure if I'll be wearing them anymore or not). I think I may be moving over to the Ariat Pro Circuit breeches.

HAHA, sorry about the unfortunate experience. It made me think back (not so fondly) to the first time (one a only a few after that) that I did the bigeq- My horse stopped at a jump and I came out of the ring a bit peeved. So I angrily swung my leg over my poor, 6 year old guy, more mad at myself than anything, and ripped my pants from seam to seam! Not only did we have a stop, I got to flash the whole of Commonwealth Park! I think I threw the pants out- getting in touch with TS is close to impossible when you own a tack shop, much less when you're an insignificant little customer. Try Ariat (though they aren't much better)!
Here today, gone tomorrow...

To be fair, the breeches would need to be pretty new, as the OP says hers were. I don't take my jeans back to Levi or Gap when they rip after what I consider too short a period. I don't buy that one again though if it was too soon.
I'm noticing one pair of my Tailored Sportsman breeches have the elastic pilling and pulling out where my butt is in the saddle. Only one pair is doing this. I mentioned it at a tack store and the lady working there said it might be defective.

wow - i guess we have been lucky! Daughter probably has 15 pairs of TS in her room, from schoolies to the pros, high waisted to the lows and two of them are the colored kind. Her original schoolies have a slight seem rip in the thigh and kind of puckered around her butt, they are 5 years old, but that is the only problem. She bounces between a 26-28L. She rides daily and only rides in these and never had any of these problems. I think only one pair have ever been drycleaned - those are the ugly greenish kind, and honestly, I think she has only worn them once because she didnt like them!

This has definitely happened to me as well.
I didn't even know you could put TS's in the washing machine. I've always sent them to the cleaners. That's another debate though - some could argue that the the chemicals they use are harder on the fabric and thread than the gentle wash cycle and detergent.
I was at a HITS show and our usual rider was out of town. A very BNR was doing my horse in the First Years and I was ecstatic. Bent down to give her a leg up and my 2-way stretches ripped front to back... and I was wearing a...er... thong. Lovely.
They were about ten years old but they weren't too tight.
It was funny at the time and it's funny now, but I'm sure if it was mid-3'6"-oxer I would have been horrified.

I had this happen to me in the show ring last season... and my mom was ever so kind to not tell me until we had packed up and gone home!! Granted it wasn't a super big rip, but a good couple inches right in the back :$

Are they the same ?
Once a time ago Tailored Sportsman made breeches in their own factory. I have never heard of a problem with those. Today I understand the new owners do not have a factory or even make their own breechs but job them out to factories in Chinatown in NYC and possibly other places. Do not know if this makes a difference, but maybe.

I reinforce all the seams when we get them because my daughter saw a friend go over a jump and have the whole seam give way( of course the photographer put it on line). She was so worried it would happen to her. I think they are fine but it makes her feel better if I reinforce them.

That's terrible! If I were that photographer I would have found the girl and said, 'You don't want me to put this online, do you?' Although, I'm pretty sure that they have some sort of obligation where they have to put every picture online.
But anyway, now I'm not so sure about 2-way stretch Tailored Sportsmans. I love mine, and I've never had them rip on me, but if this is really happening that much... I might just switch over to 4-way stretch and have my mom reinforce the seams on mine. God knows what my trainer would say if that happened to me in the middle of a round; I think she'd be the first one on the ground laughing.
*Edit*
What if we hand washed them with very mild detergent? Kind of like cashmere?
