this is passive aggressive, right:

My neighbors have been taking on to driving through my front yard. Heaven knows, their own is big enough, but there you go, almost leaving ruts.

Now here is my solution, instead of knocking on the door (they are the kind that want to be some sort of thug, at least the kids) I am going to plant some rose bushes and put up small fencing. I am going to look into the cost of a full fence when I am going to the fencing place for my thingamabob for the whatchamacallit (you remember, the down rod...) because this is ever so ridiculous!

For the time being I will plant large sunflowers next to the back yard fence, which happens to be next to their pool. I am sure they will complain, as it (the pool) was the reason they asked permission to cut down our crepe myrtles - how come they had the one in the front cut down.... some people....oh well.

I read in a head line that the current economic woes cause many more men to have visectomies, too bad, for that bunch it's about 40 years late....

Some people just dont think. I've been renting my house the last couple of months as a favor to a friend who needed a place to stay. Its got a perfectly fine gravel driveway and parking area. But the boyfriend (she didnt mention) in his big huge truck has to park in the backyard And turned it of course into a big huge mudpit. I admit I lost it cause I spent a week or two last summer leveling and planting grass seed after doing some other landscaping. I dont want to do it again. SO, he now parks in the driveway and is paying for a load of topsoil to fix it. And they're moving out ASAP because of that and some other issues.
I'd mention to them that you dont like them driving accross your property. Because in my case new landscaping and plants didnt deter him.

Big rock garden in the front lawn. No upkeep for you, deters motorized vehicles. (I can't grow anything, so rock gardens are my specialty,LOL)

yeah, a friend of Hubby suggested nail boards, but I do have a guy come in with his ever so sweet Kubota mower to cut the yard....

I have considered SSS, but we are not far enough in the country....

This is why we put in our front fence as soon as we moved in (many years ago now). Back then, our property was way out in the country, and the country boys had driven across it regularly. But once the fence was up, we never had another problem.

This may not help in your situation, but a guy from my barn was having problems with kids on dirtbikes riding on his property. He has a few piles of fill-dirt and gravel, and the kids were apparently riding up and down them.

His solution was to get a large truckload from the barn's manure pile and put it out with the other piles. Sure enough, the kids came back and started playing, but when they tried to ride up the pile of manure and shavings their bikes sank right in. They had no choice but to dig their bikes out of stinky, fermenting manure.

They never came back again, though.

Sure enough, the kids came back and started playing, but when they tried to ride up the pile of manure and shavings their bikes sank right in. They had no choice but to dig their bikes out of stinky, fermenting manure.

They never came back again, though.

I like MB's ideas. A hedge worth of Cotton Wood trees will do fun things to their pool filter. Add some way pretty rock gardens in just the right places and you will be all set.

I'd be a little hesitant to use cottonwood trees. If they are the same variety I have, their roots run close to the top of the ground. Very easy to catch a mower blade on and makes them fall down fairly easily. I had one fall on my house last winter and I suspect that if I hadn't had it's neighbor removed, it probably would have fallen during the ice storm this year and those things grow big! I have one left and hope to get that one taken out next year.

I had the same problem as the OP, and like her I planted a nice little Eff-U Garden right where they had been driving in.
It worked for me and less for me to mow

Well, a little update...


yesterday the kid drove across again... but the real kicker was when a woman drove her car through the yard this morning. I had put up old branches and stuff on the border, didn't phase them...so this morning Hubby went over there. I am curious how long it will last, but I did buy a smallish spade to dig some planting holes....and as soon as I get the tire on my wheel barrol pumped up again I will start on the rock garden idea - I thing..not much growing in that corner anyhow....

I am still flabbergasted at the nerve of some folks....I have looked into fence, I think a 2 board vinyl would look great and it's affordable

Oh, and I will regrow my crepe myrtles....pool be damned, but enough is enough!

Funny idea but I can't help but wonder if this might put them at risk for rolling their ATVs because they probably wound't always sink both wheels evenly. Sounds like a potential liability and considering it is too easy for people to sue I'd not do it. I heard of someone who was trying to rob a house and was sneaking around on the roof and trying to get in. He fell through one of the skylights and successfully sued the homeowner. If I ever had legal troubles I want that guy's attorney!
