    Default Simple Luxuries

I was at the barn today starting to install TV cameras on my horse trailer...not expensive and I get to watch my guys as we chug down the road...Horse TV, all beast, all the time.

I got to thinking what things are the simple luxuries making horse ownership just a little more fun/easy/special.

    My vote goes to:

Electrogroom Vacuums (I love the Elvis lip reaction to vacuuming).
Hydraulic horse trailer jacks (only took one use of this one and it was sold).
Hot water in the wash stall.
    Big Indoor Ring.
    Diesel Trucks for towing

I am SO with you on the indoor ring!

I also love having baby wipes that are fabric and can be rinsed and reused (say, in place of a sponge). Also Shamwows. Oh, do I love those.

Having an electric kettle in the barn is great--hot chocolate is delicious after a tough winter ride.

Hey BB, I just bought the Shamwows for the house. Where do you use them around the barn?

I use them for drying off horses' legs after I've rinsed the mud off (before riding, so the legs stay nice and clean and pretty.....for a few minutes anyway). One towel can do a good job on all four wet legs. They're great for hot towelling (is that even a word?). They're great for cleaning tack and applying leather conditioner or oil. I totally spilled a whole bunch of water just to see how much they'd wipe up, too. I'll admit to playing with the Shamwows!

    Horse friends!

But at the barn, hot water in the wash stall...SO many occassions where that was huge. Bathrooms in the barn, an indoor, LOTS of feed options. We have the vaccums but I don't use them often enough!

Hot water and bathrooms are my big ones, I guess!!

Sigh - I've got none of those except my horses at home and the diesel truck. We get by.

Default I appreciate lots of things on this farm

Tractors. Tractors to mow, move manure, haul equipment to make hay, and anything else we can think of to use them for

Husband. Helps with hay, manure removal, and anything else I can think of to use him for

Diesel truck. Hauls horses, bedding, and anything else I can think of.

Boarders. They pay me to love their horses, giving me the best job in the world.

The horses themselves. Love every single one. Even the goofy Appaloosa!

These are all luxuries to someone who grew up in a non-horse family.

    Hot water.

As far as I'm concerned I'm in heaven.

The only thing I've got is Fat Mare TV.

I run 100' of cable around day 330, and watch from the comfort (and warmth!) of my bed. While I don't regret the time spent on top of haybales in many, many woolie layers and under a couple sleeping bags... I really loff my All Mares, All the Time TV.

I don't have regular TV, haven't for 10 years, just the monitor in the bedroom for foalwatch.

Hot water... a 100' hose can run out the back door from the bathroom sink. And while I would ADORE an indoor, even a small one, then I would have to ride most of the winter and I really do enjoy my time off...

Miles of trails. Horse ownership can be very difficult without them!
