Unhappy Jingles for the horse & rider at WEF

Well word is starting to spread through the neighborhood about a horse that died or was put down in the international arena at WEF today. I've heard everything from heart attack to broken legs but ultimately that the horse was lost and the rider was injured. I've heard a few names going around including an old friend of mine from the pony years so I'm quite worried and am hoping to get the real facts rather than just the swirling rumors.

Either way, many many jingles and prayers for the rider, and Godspeed to the horse. I'm off to go hug my boy now..

I was not there and did not see what happened, but I got a phone call from a friend, who manages the barn that lost the horse. She was really really upset. The horse broke its neck and had to be put down in the ring. The rider was ok though. Very very sad.

Jingles! I really hope someone can give details.

About month ago, I had heard of a up and coming, very promising young horse at a private farm, viewed from WEF show grounds, was running, and instead of throwing head up as he slid to a stop, he lowered head, ran into the fence and broke his neck. Very sad.

It was very sad to watch, and it seemed to take a very long time. I'm not sure if they put him/her down right away, but it was quite awhile before they adjusted the curtains to block the view while they moved to the trailer, so I tend to doubt it. I saw the horse down on the ground as they moved said curtains and couldn't help but get a little teary eyed Jingles for rider and owner if not one in the same.

Do we have name yet or could someone pm me the name if they don't want to post it for all to see. I have several friends in the mediums. I probably would've heard something by now but you never know. Still jingling...

I saw Norman Dello Joio out there, and he was making calls as he walked back out of the ring, so I assumed it was someone that rides with him. That's just speculation though. I haven't posted on this forum in years and I actually just logged on in hopes of finding out who it was.

These are very difficult situations, as a horse can appear to have suffered severe neurological damage from a fall, and bounce back hours later, or go the other way. They are difficult to impossible to "move" and dangerous to be around besides.

and then there is the issue of insurance, which some do require a certain time frame before euthanasia is allowed.

very unsettling situation all the way around, prayers for all and my sympathy to whomever lost their partner.

I can't even imagine... Hope that the rider is ok... Thank God I wasn't there... would have probably had a melt-down... can't imagine what it feels like loosing your partner in such a situation... Major jingles....
