    Default Top Hanoverian Mare Families

In your opinion, which are the "elite" lines (whether they be dressage or jumping oriented) of the Hanoverian breed and on which we should concentrate when purchasing a broodmare?

Brutust, you are asking an important question but I think everyone who has responded to you so far has misunderstood you.

By "mare families" I assume you mean the damline or motherline and not stallions that appear in the bottom half of a pedigree. You mean a dam and her mother and her mother and her mother, etc and are focusing solely on the females in the bottom part of the pedigree.

The Holsteiners and Trakehners make this question easy to answer but the Hanoverians do not organize their mare families into "stamms" or motherlines like the Holsteiner and Trakehner Verbands do, respectively.

Your best bet is to hope that some of the Hanoverian breeders on this board, inside and outside of Germany, see your post and reply.

The mare line that produced -

Wolkenstein II, Garibaldi I & II, etc... http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=3267

(not a Hanoverian mare line but very good to study & understand the 'why') Rubinstein I ... http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=3267

    Abundance ... http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=281930

There are some others that I'll add later - the chores can't wait any longer!

Default Here is my mare's dam line

Thanks Tom for pointing that out...as I was thinking the same thing! My mare's family I find to be quite interesting, so far. I believe that there is still some missing information, as we are still searching for info. on foal that she had while in Germany.

    http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=381979

Her sister, Necco seems to be associated with Stal Hendrix (NL) as they sold Vertigo to U.S.A. in 2007.

Her brother, Noble I was originally being ridden by Jonathon Whitaker (I think that's the correct person) of Canada, but is now being ridden by Michel Hendrix - Stal Hendrix (NL).

I also found it interesting where the name Landadel would be used again for a stallion (not to be confused with THE Landadel - yet they are both by Landgraf I).

    Hmm,
Yeah, I wish they had a # to coincide with each family. I bought a book in Germany about the best Hanoverian mare families, but haven't read it yet. The German version of course is huge and the english, about 15 pages lol.

I have taken note of a few families that strike my fancy, via looking for stallions.

The family of SPS Carina. She is a full sister to the stallion Compliment. She has produced a # of lovely horses including the dam of Hampton (His Highness), Red Chili, a spectacular mare herself. She has also produced a super Liscenced son this year by Londonderry and another mare who is competing successfully in NA at FEI level by Reggazoni. I am sure there is more to be said of this mare line.... Carina has won best mare family at big shows in Germany.

From the German site and translated roughly to english:

Carina's full brother was a Compliment Topdressurpferdevererber in Hanover's breeding area. Furthermore, the Stallions Einstand I and II (v. insight), Germany (v. Grannus) internat. SPR erf. with Markus Beerbaum and Slibovitz (v. Servus) internat. erf. dressage horse with Dr. Uwe Schulten-Baumer

Carina class itself was won on the horse show in Bruchhausen - Vilsen, imagine the St.Pr.St. Red Chili (v.Rotspon), their first daughter, the show's winner and is also in the best series of the show in family Bruchhausen - Vilsen, the biggest horse show in Hanover's breeding area.

Carina 2007, the winner of the family Herwart review of the ceiling. The valuable trophy secured Red Chili and her two sisters Faconable and Red Hot Chili.

Another family that I have recently found fascinating is that of Pr St
Gänseliesel. She is the full sister to the dam of Brentano II and is herself the dam of Beltain, the sire of the fantastic Belissimo M. She is also the full sister of Garibaldi 1 and II and the granddam of Wolkenstein 1 and II and the international dressage star Little Big Man.
Here is an article about the owner of SPS Ganseliesel:

    http://www.horsemagazine.com/BREEDIN.../max_shulz.htm

I am sure I will think of more soon.

hey...Donella, you need to get in line for that mare family (Carina/Red Chili) . I've been drooling over them for years! I'm still waiting for a filly to be born. *sigh*

Hehe, I imagine there is a lineup for a filly from that family. Hmm..ok, can you put me on the list for a filly from the Red Chili filly that you are gonna get?

If we were talking Oldenburg mares, I'd include the Weissena line. Since there is quite a bit of crossover between WB registries, I'll add my 2 cents and mention this wonderful mare family anyway!

Yeah, if we are speaking of other registries, I am fond of the Rumirell line (Oldenburg), the mare herself is the dam to five liscened sons from Rhodiamont: Romanov, Rubin Royal, Rubin Action , Rumicello and Rubino Vincento. Wow!

The Holstein damline that gave Contendro. I don't know much about Holstein breeding but I believe this is 104 A. The mare Ofarim is the dam of two liscenced sons, Caballo and Conteur, the popular Celle state stud stallion. She also produced the mare Bravo, who is the dam of Contendro 1 and II as well as the famous showjumper Caretano Z.

Anyways, not Hanoverian, but stallions from these fantastic families are frequently used in Hanover, especially RR, Romanov and Contendro 1 especially.

On the Paardenfokken website there is a button for Moederlijn (motherline) once you have pulled up a pedigree, so you can click away to you heart content...that is how I got the links to the stallions I listed above - Wolkenstein, Rubenstein (not a H, I know) & Abundance. It makes it really easy to trace licensed stallions (they're always in BOLD), there are levels of competition listed also & registry of origin...so quite a bit of information.

Londonderry has a bit of interesting (low # of generations of mares listed but several licensed stallions) http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=24887 . Liberty Gold is not in the database - and I am bummed as I wanted to do some research on him...

This is the new stallion at Celle - Hohenzollern's motherline http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=353190

    His Highness - http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=35257

    Sherwood - http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=26359

and his sire Sherlock Holmes has a familial link to Fielding - http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=26360

Just thought I would mention that Rumirell descends from Rudilore II, a State Premium Elite mare by Chronos out of Rudilore I by Condor. Rudilore II was Harli Seifert's foundation mare, and produced two State Premium daughters by eventing legend Volturno who founded mini-dynasties of their own - SPS Elite Voila and SPS Ruling Chica. Approved stallions Gio Granno (by Grannus), Conterno Grande (by Contender), Couleur Rubin (by Cordalme), and Don Chico (by Donnerhall) descend from Voila, and approved stallions Tantris (Tramdeuter), Rubin Royal, Romanov, Rubin Action, Rumicell, and Rubino Vincento (all by Rohdiamant) descend from Ruling Chica. Some of these stallions also have their own approved sons, and many States Premium mares also descend from Voila and Ruling Chica.

Another thing - the Tantris mentioned above is the same Tantris here in the U.S. I suspect he is one of those underutilized stallions we sometimes talk about, so those wanting to breed to a U.S. based stallion with a strong motherline might want to put him on their list. We are very grateful to have him in the Oldenburg stallion service auction - http://oldenburghorse.auctionanything.com !

    Hanover stamm 439 is excellent.

    http://www.paardenfokken.nl/family.php?horseid=86363

My filly's dam is 3/4 sister to the late stallion Rubiano.
My filly's grand dam Dorfblume, is 3/4 sister to the stallion Del Piero and full sister to the approved Hanoverian stallions Don Paulo and Di Versace.

And, the grand dam Dorfblume is due to foal a Rousseau babe in a few weeks. (i think it will be for sale) I'm looking forward to seeing that baby.

Speaking of Chronos and Condor... AND the aforementioned Weissena line: Weissena IV was by Chronos out of Weissena.

Donella, I just sold an SPS Compliment Picard mare, in the JBP as well. She is super nice, and so nice to have him as a damsire.
I have always loved Compliment, and when I wanted to import his semen, I had no interest---- NADA. Now he is dead.
    Crazy eh?
Oh well, I have For Compliment in my tank:-)

Going way back, Wolgarune by Wohler, founded a dynasty for the Klausing family. www.hof-klausing.de , click on Breeding. She had a number of daugheters, but in particular:

Her granddaughter Geranie, by Grenadier out of Arlette by Arsenik, is the granddam to 3 recent successful young stallions, Barclay (Adelheidsdorf 2008 winner), Fuerst Rosseau (Adelheidsdorf 2008 3rd place), and Scolari (dressage winner in his 70 day test, 140 pts). http://www.hanoverian-stallions-pape...D_5514662.html

Geranie is the granddam of Ramina K (by Rohdiamant out of Avignon by Akzent II), reserve champion 3 year old at Bundeschampionate and top seller at a Verden elite auction to Sissy Max-Therur (name since changed to Romantik)http://victoria.achleiten.at/cms/fro...at=19&idart=42 . Avignon was also dam to 2 approved stallions Belford and Ramazotti.

Geranie is the great-granddam of Rhodes Scholar and RS's half-sister by Walt Disney, my beloved SPA Wardenia, who lost her first foal this year and then 4 months later slipped running in the pasture and fractured her hock and had to be put down. Its especially hard, having had my own little part of this dynasty, not having any offspring to carry on with. I'd love to acquire another broodmare of this line, but I imagine they are in high demand given the recent success.

Oh God Lea Ann...I didn't know. I adored that mare, as you know. I am so upset you lost her. I am so sorry.
