Not to hijack, but i can't seem to find the thread regarding the myler bits with the slots for the reins and cheek pieces... are those legal in the Hunter ring?
There is no such thing as a legal or illegal bit in the hunters. The operative word in the hunter rules is untraditional or unconventional. So while no bits are specifically outlined as illegal, it is up to the judge's discretion on whether or not she/he approves of your bit choice. Many judges will not place horses wearing the mylers with loops as they are unconventional. Some judges may not notice or may not care. Yes, the loops are discrete, but you can still tell they are there. So, if you want to chance your placing and feel the need to use the Mylers with hooks-- that's your decision, but be aware you may be penalized.
thanks for the numbers. Yes I know Jay takes forever, I have waited for bits from him, I just think he comes up with some very good solutions for bitting. I'm borrowing on now that I would love to have in my own bit box.
I own two. Both are quite unique. One is a hackamore with a pelham shank/curb (no bit). The other is a broken segunda WITHOUT sharp points, and it's a sweet iron bit. If anyone is interested in these pm me. I no longer have the horses I used these for. They were expensive: the segunda was $250, the hackamore was $300. I actually 'want' to hold onto them in case I need them in the future but could use the extra cash in reality...
