Default Comparing sizes of 2008 foals

I put a stick on my May 10, 2008, weanling by Ikoon out of my Dutch mare, Natasha.

    Dad is 16.2H.

    Mom is 16H.

Foal is 13H and a bit more.

How does she compare to others of the same age, or thereabouts?

Not that mine will be much of a comparison (orphaned at 2 days and issues with controlling ulcers and such) She is 12.2 at the withers and almost 13 at the hip. She was born end of April. Dam 16.1, Sire 15 (but with lots of size behind him)

I am looking forward to everyone else's responses.

My 2008 filly born end of May is almost 14 hh already !! She is the biggest WB foal I have ever had at this age. Her mom is 15.3 hh TB and sire is 17 hh KWPN. Dam always produces large sized foals but this one is the biggest so far. Sire is my trainer's Grand Prix jumper.

My friend's filly by the same sire is 14.2 hh already -- she is a month older than my filly. I think her dam is over 16 hh.

However, my trainer's filly by the same sire is a little over 13 hh but she was born in July. Her dam is 15.3 hh.

This is the sire's first crop and talk about a nice small crop (small as in quantity not size --LOL). All fillies no colts !!

I measured my colt at 5 months (Nov. 7th), and he was 13hh on the nose back then.. a bit taller behind. I will measure him again this weekend as he'll be 6 months on Sunday, I will report back and let you know if he's grown.

I've got a "monster" of a Georgian Grande filly....Born April 19th, 2008, Dam is only 15.2hh, Sire is 16.1hh...I sticked the Filly at 7 months of age and she was 14.3hh at the bum, 14.2hh at the wither.I also tried the string test.... I don't know how accurate the string test is, but it measured her being 16.3 when mature.

I have another Georgian Grande filly who I haven't sticked yet, but the string test showed 18hh...

String Test: could someone run that by me again? Where do you start and where do you finish? I would like to do this on my colt.

I just measured my colt yesterday. He just turned five months on 25th of November. Dad is 17 hands, mom is 16.3 hands and built like a tank. Max is 14 hands at withers - he grew four inches in the last month and is also big boned like mom.

Mine is 13.3 but she is an early foal with a Feb 21 birth date. The only thing that is interesting is the mare's first foal was by a much larger sire and he was 14.1 at 20 months. I don't know if this filly is going to be substantially larger than her sire and dam, both 15.3 or if she is just an early grower and will be done sooner than normal.

I'll play. My Derby Day colt out of a 16.0 maiden and by a 16.2 stallion sticks at 14.1 as of this past weekend. He's butt high but I didn't measure the back end

Wasn't counting on one as tall as this guy is threatening to be!

I measured my filly today. She was born in April.

She is 14.1+ at the withers and 14.3-3/4 at the butt.

    Both parents are 16.2H.

She is a French Anglo Arabian.

Appaloosa filly born 6/7/08 so will be 6 months in a couple of days.

    Sire: 16.3hh
    Dam: 16.1hh
Filly: 13.3-14hh and crazy butt high

Growth has slowed down in the last month since she was weaned which is a good thing.

    My colt, oh, now gelding...

    Mom is 15.3
    Dad is 17 hands

Ace is about 14.2 right now and a little butt high. He was born the end of Feb.

Here is a pic of him out with a retired gelding who is about 16.1.

Looks like to me that Ace will be bigger then 16.1! So much for the first baby theory!

I string tested Aria (the orphan) It shows as just a hair under 16hh. I am ok with that. Her mom and dad are chunky types with a leg at each corner. So even 15.3 would be just fine.

I string tested the 2 year old tb I picked up at auction (I know I am crazy... my hubby definitely things so lol.. but she was too nice to pass up for that price) and it came up just over 16.2-my favourite size!

I did Aven as well. According to the string test.. he is now at maximum height . (anyone want a very well bred 14.3h swedish/irish tb cross?)

How old is Aven? The string test will be quite off if the cannon bones are shorter (or longer) than average on your horse.
