I've been an LVT for 11 years, I'm also a veterinary technician specialist in emergency critical care. I see the profession changeing (for the better). There are now specialty boards available for technicians. These paths offer increased knowledge, responsibilities and pay. Many veterinary hospitals offer competitive wages, vacation / sick leave, benefits, pet health care discounts, flexible hours and retirement packages. As well as signing bonuses and recruitment bonsuses.
My clinical experience is strictly small animal. I work to support my horse habit Financially speaking I do well with a combined income. I look at in a combined way - I love my job, I get good benefits for me AND my pets, and the hours are great.

That was one of the best benefits of working in the clinic...great care for all my pets at a very generous discount. I made decent money, even as an assistant/office person. Most important...besides what I do know, it was the best job I ever had. I loved it!

I know most clinics around here tend to hire boatloads of assistants (which I am trained for and worked as) but not as many techs. They paid well when I was working, but that may have changed...so much has!

I don't think she would be sorry she did it. I really hope that she does, as she knows her life will always include animals. We are more than willing to pay her tuition for this first degree, although she worries needlessly about it. We really feel it would be worth it for her. And like so many of you have said, she will be so young at just 18 when she finishes the program that she has more than enough time to begin a four year BS in something like Equine Science, facility management or something along those lines.

I think she really is worried about her future much more than we are
I Loff My Quarter Horse & I love Fenway Bartholomule cliques

Just somebody with a positive outlook on life...go ahead...hate me for that.
