Yay! Driving Fairy Luna! pics added - pic of Rags and Kima added
Don't know if you remember our rescuing the cremello mare in February 2007, her quickly evident pregnancy and the birth of our dun filly Ragtime Morning. Since we weaned Rags in April we've been bringing Luna into work. At first she was heartily resistant. Clever and powerful of will, she was not going to put herself into a position to be abused as she had been previous to the rescue. I ran into many obstructions with her, but a couple of months ago, when I put her into a Peewee bit and gained the help of one of our exchange students, a Danish girl named Liisa, Luna began to come along.
After all the usual preliminaries plus some, we finally reached the point today of putting her to the cart. Total, happy success!!! I have a new driving horse!
Thanks as always to all whose counsel has been so helpful!

A friend took pictures yesterday -- I'll nag her to get some and post them ASAP. Will also get some of Rags, who has completely co-opted Kima, our mini from Margo Townsend, as her very own pet. He's 22 years old, she's 18 months old, but she protects him, coddles him, bosses him around, shares her food with him (!), cuddles him -- for all the world like a little girl with her first puppy. I don't suppose there's any way of making a tandem out of a mini and a smallish horse...?
Dick, I want pics of the team sorting, too! So glad you three are having fun together! You all work so hard!
She's looking very good. You should be proud of yourselves.
I know the photos are just her getting used to stuff but prior to getting in the carriage to help her move better, just check she's enough room in her harness. When she's standing in the neutral position ensure you can get a hand turned sideways between her breast collar and chest and same again behind her britching and rump. Check the saddle isn't slipping back. It needs to stay about a hand behind her withers.
And thanks for the observations, Thomas. Yes, everything was a little tight because I had pushed her well forward in the cart -- just in case! There was room, but not as much as necessary. I'll have her in correct position next time, now that I know she's going to be calm and collected about it all.
I remember the rescue pics - she was such a sad little thing...
What a difference!
Fairy Luna now wears her name well - she's as round as a moon and dainty as a fairy.
C'mon with those pics of Rags!!!!
With "her" mini, s'il vous plait

Dale, how exciting! The mare really looks good, in all ways...I joined this forum not all that long before you got Fairy Luna; I well remember your posts about her then(remember thinking what a cool name you had for her!)
I'd dearly love to see pics of her baby who's 'appropriated' Kima; please do post some! He's an accepting fellow; is probably secretly 'tickled' by all of Rags' attention!
Congrats on your progress with the mare! (Enjoyed seeing what YOU look like, too...you look 'just like' the very nice, 'horsey' lady I have envisioned you--and believe me, I mean that in the most complimentary of ways!)

Reason: Edited to correct dates; memory a bit off!
In front or behind?
She's just 13 hh at the withers, and still growing. Luna's 13h3", and I'm thinking Rags will be a little bigger. She's not a delicate little girl! But she has her own beauty. Definitely a lagniappe!
