Default Happy Horsey Halloween ~ Ghost Stories

I was searching for horse ghost stories on the forum. This is a pretty good thread.

    http://chronicleforums.com/Forum/sho...ghlight=ghosts

Anyone else have any ghost threads from COTH they would like to add, or any new horse ghost stories?

How do you find branches of TAPS? My husband is obsessed with that show and would totally do that!

Well, Ms. Alice probably won't appreciate me propigating the legend but we consider one of the apartments above the Rocking Horse barn to be haunted.

I can't sleep in there-stayed half a night, no more. Turned the horse out, went upstairs to the creepy apartment, showered, went to dinner w/ friends and then started to settle in when I got back. Put my dog's bed next to the bed, he wouldn't come in the room to sleep. I thought that was odd, but shrugged it off, went to bed.

Next thing I know, my heart is pounding faster than it ever has in my life, sweat is poring off of me, I keep hearing someone screaming-over and over-with some bloody figure hanging over me. Screaming in my face. I leapt up and my dog was whining in the doorframe-I ran out of the room, thinking there was someone trying to kill me. I have never been so scared in my life. Bar none. I sat awake on the couch the rest of the night, too terrified to go back to the room, packed my stuff back up that morning and went to stay at a friend's house nearby.

Ms. Alice thought I was a bit goofy, lol, which might be true, but wow...I never ever wanted to stay in that barn apartment again. Esp. after telling my friend I spent the night there, who said, "Did she come out?" Me: "Who?" "The ghost that's supposed to be in there." No thank you.

And don't forget...at 7 EST Ghost Hunters goes LIVE for 7 hours at Fort Delaware

Any background on that story? As in, anyone have an idea who the "ghost" might be? Was the barn always a horse barn? Was the apartment grooms quarters at one time? Did you know it was "haunted" before you stayed there? I think you and a couple people should spend the night there and investigate--stay awake, take video and pictures, if you have a digital recorder do an EVP session where you ask questions and then listen later to see if you get any responses etc.

No way in hell. No, I didn't know about the judge. That was the first I'd heard about the 'ghost' but apparently there is a judge who won't stay there during a show, and one other person beside my friend (the one who told me about the 'ghost').

Now, I will say that that is the creepiest of the three apartments. It always felt odd, but I'm just really silly and have an overactive imagination generally, so empty rooms/apartments/old houses have always made my hair stand up. Very sensitive to that stuff. Its the one that is least used typically.

As for the barn, its not that old. Maybe from the 1970's? Well, earlier actually b/c the late 70s and early 80s were its haydey. So, 68's/70's? Definitely think its always been a horse barn. Half was burned down, I'm not sure if that's a true story or not, but growing up there I remember someone saying the upper part burned down so they re-built the apartments and stairways.

Well, mine isn't a ghost story in the scary sense.

Three days after we lost my Azteca mare down in KY in August of '07, I woke up in the middle of the night. It was a full moon night, and I'm prone to waking as the moon shines right in the window, bright as day.

I was worried that something I'd *heard* in my sleep woke me... you know, that 'clipity clip' of little barefoot hooves headed down the pavement to greener pastures next door...

I looked out the window and in the bottom of the sacrifice paddock saw a white horse, completely in, where it belonged. Not fretting or acting like someone else was on walkabout. Just peacefully There. Comforted that there was nothing going I blissfully went back to sleep.

It was only later the next day, when that came back to me in a flash that I realized... I didn't OWN any white horses at the time. NONE that would resemble the horse I saw out the window... the one almost-all-white horse I did own had died in KY three days previous...

I sheepishly told my very dear friend, her breeder about this. Without a blink she said that Excelsis had come to visit to say goodbye.... If I dreamed it, I think it was still her coming to say goodbye. I really, truly don't think I dreamed it.

A related dog story... I have the whitest, (as in honkey ) most domesticated dogs on the planet. In the past they have tried desperately to join the coyotes in chorus. They fail miserably. Not one of them can carry a tune. They end up just barking along.

Three days after a dear, dear friend's wolf hybrid died... one of those Truly Great Dogs... the coyotes started singing, and without a single misstep, mine joined in, *howling* for the first time in their lives. I knew, in a heartbeat, they were singing him over.

I'm not usually like that. It was beautiful and stunning. They have not howled again since, though the coyotes do.

So while we are watching TAPS live right now we looked up the website. Perhaps my hubby will go join so we don't have to watch these shows anymore that freak me out. Plus it would give him a hobby so that I could not feel so bad spending all my time with the ponies.

spirithorse, which apartment? I've spent the night several different times above that barn, and nothing unusual happened. I didn't know you were familiar w/ RH.

I practically grew up there! You know Skipper's backdoor, the one on the side of the laundry room/north pasture? That's the apartment, with the door that doesn't like to shut well.

Seriously though, I moved to RH w/ my first thoroughbred there when I was twelve or so, went through three horses and didn't leave until I moved out of state when I was about to turn twenty! I was there a long, long time.

I have such good memories of that place! It's always going to be 'home'.
