Yesterday while I was putting the finishing touches on our new cross country course and picking up sticks, three of my dogs were "helping" me. Now German Shepherds make great farm dogs and companions, but their "boring work" ethics lack a bit. Reno, our female GSD is always present when I'm working, but repeatedly climbs on the seat of the golf cart and makes faces like "are we done yet". She only sits in the cart when it's stopped, doesn't ride on it in motion. Well, I was almost done and heading home when I stopped for one more stick. I failed to turn off the key to the electric golf cart while I made a quick pick up. Reno had climbed on to the floor, instead of the seat of the cart and layed down - laying on the electric/gas pedal as she did!! I turned around to go back to the cart and there went my cart and DOG bouncing across the field. The look on her face was one of puzzlement...why was I backing away from HER!! When I called her name she jumped up and off the pedal. I hope she doesn't start driving on a regular basis...I'll have a long walk back to the gate!!

My dogs have yet to do that WITHOUT me, but my labx frequently jumps in and sits on my foot when I'm not expecting it and on more than one occasion, I've almost hit something. I hadn't thought about them sitting on the gas pedal without me..., I'd better turn the key off every time!

My German Shorthair did that last week when *I* was working on my cross country course. Same deal. Do you think it's a sign? She was pretty happy with herself as both my dogs think the golf cart is the best thing ever!

It's bad enough having to make a rule about not letting junior members drive the Pony Club equipment (if we DID have a golf cart, ride-on mower, 4 wheel bike or similar); never thought I'd have to make a rule "Dogs are not allowed to drive the club equipment" Thanks for the laugh and please take your video camera with you in future.

OMG!!! That was so funny and so German Shepherd like. I have always had boys and I now have a female that I plan to breed with frozen from my beloved Nico and she is so different from my two boys.,..they would pick up sticks and help carry them to the pile..not Kiki she is always off having fun or looking at me like "are we done yet," just like you said above!!! Thanks for the laugh!!!

We had similar situation, but it was the truck with a load of hay.
The dog put the truck into neutral and was on a slight grade, so they drove across the hay field and thankfully stopped by the fence.
Fence, truck, dog and hay load all survived undamaged.

Sport...My senario was funny...yours was downright scarey!! There was no real danger in my case, but the look on the dog's face was priceless!! I guess she wondered how I made the cart move from so far away!! When I got back to the house I told my husband I had been "car T" jacked by my dog!! Dogs and horses...they keep ya laughing!!! I guess I'll be more mindful about turning the key off!!

Our situation sounds worse than it was.
We were in a wide open hay field and thankfully she stayed well away from gas pedals, so no great speed was obtained.
