Just 2 weeks ago we had to say goodbye to our beloved Vegas.
My parents arrived today for a weekend visit on their way back from Washington on their way to Texas. Along with them was our sweet Saluki, JJ. A dog that when he lost his best friend a few years ago only came back to life when he saw the horses.
Well, this evening, while I was feeding the horses, my step-mom was walking JJ. He was playing with the foals, and nose to nose with their dams, then hoping around and playing with our 2 dogs.
On the way back to the house, he dropped to the ground and died in moments.
Vegas was his best equine friend and had been so for years. They loved each other dearly and would lounge in the pasture together on warm days.
Tomorrow, I will bury JJ next to Vegas, and hopefully he will be able to keep him company across the Rainbow Bridge and they can spend eternity running side by side and lounging in green fields.

Aww, what a cute doggie! So sorry for both of your losses! My grandmother used to always tell us that God never gives a person more to handle than they can bear, but sometimes I have to wonder ... Hugs from me and Buffy.
She wasn't running away with me, I just couldn't stop her!
Baroque, I am so very sorry. I lost my 14 year old dog this week, so I really feel for you. It is very hard, isn't it?
I hope you can take some comfort knowing that your dog's last moments were filled with joy, surrounded by love, running and playing with his friends on the farm.
Thank you all for your hugs and well wishes. Finished burying him next to Vegas a couple hours ago, and it was just so hard to say goodbye.
We've had several Salukis over the years, and of all of them, he was the one I loved the best.
Funny Story for me to remember him by:
My folks like to go to Ocean Beach, CA for a couple months each year and let him play on Dog Beach. One day when he was out running around and playing another owner was throwing a toy out into the channel and his Lab would dive in and go fetch it. When he tossed it at one point, it caught JJ's attention and JJ went after it. We always joked about him being a Bedouin Water Dog, but this day he earned a completely different nickname as his feet landed on a sand bar right next to where the Lab was swimming and for all intents and purposes, it looked like JJ was walking on water while this poor Lab was doggie paddling away. Every year since we would run into someone on the beach that would recognize him and say "Hey, its the Jesus Dog!".
Chai - so sorry to hear of your loss as well. Let's hope they meet each other on the other side and have fun chasing rabbits or something.
