I wish I were going! I'll be in court instead. Next year: Coconino I & II and Grass Ridge!

If I go, I'll hoist a few extra tequilas in yer honor, oldbutnotdead!

And as for Coconino '09, one way or another, I'll be there, too.

ooh, riven - any chance if you go you could take some photos and post them??
The first horse trials I ever went to watch were at Grass Ridge, in maybe 1973?? I vividly remember standing beside the stadium ring watching rounds and seeing a rider come off over her horses' head, landing with the whole bridle in her hand....

It would be fun to see the facility now! Have a great time if you go!

Sure, I'll take photos...since I'll be there sans cheval. Just glad I procrastinated putting in an entry.

Have you seen the website? http://www.grassridge.com

wow! they sure have put a lot of work into the course since I moved in 2004.

Who is running the event these days (I see GREF but no actual names)

I see some stadium fences in the background in one pic (although that could be a CDE hazard) - are they still doing dressage and stadium at the fairgrounds?

    Laura,

All phases are now at Grass Ridge! Only overflow stabling is at the fairgrounds.

Christina Gray is the org/sec for the HT. Lots of folks help run the foundation: Marilyn, James, etc. The usual suspects.

I think you might be looking at a CDE obstacle, if it's the one I'm thinking of; looks like giant stadium jumps kind of in a big circle. Hard to explain.

I would call the X-Cs at Grass Ridge the best in Area 9 and 10. They are tough, very well designed and built.
They have every thing, the tight turns, technical parts and the big galloping.

    Absolute fantastic a real kick.

Only draw back for me its 11 hours to far at the present.

One advice don't crash into the waters, they stink pretty bad
That I have no use for them, does not mean, that I don't know them and don't know how to use them.

    wow! that's awesome!

I remember those bizarre HUGE grasshoppers out there in October - all kinds of really cool colors! (like orange and pink and green and purple)

now Grass Ridge was traditionally a move up course (until 2004 or so, right?). Were there issues when they first ramped up the difficulty?

It's hard to believe that I moved 4 years ago and haven't ridden at that event since 2000 - the year of the great deluge and cancelled XC. I'm feeling old! (although I volunteered the years between when I rode and when I moved)

    ponygrl,
Move up naturally, you do Grass Ridge nowadays if you plan to move up next year.
    A real Move Up Course.
The Prelim course is a real nice move up test for I and so on all the way down to Novice.

    Just Sweet

it used to be a good first course at that level - so now it's more of a "let's make sure you're ready to move up"?

is my favorite picture from Grass Ridge - that fence is probably long gone (in the back field) but the landscape is gorgeous.

is one of my OTTB doing the old Novice ditch in the back field.
