Default Trainer pleads guilty to Animal Cruelty

In a plea agreement, a local trainer pled guilty to 16 counts of animal cruelty involving 16 horses. Two of the horses were found dead on the property.

The initial charges (from last year), copies of pictures and the plea agreement were taken to the KY Racing Commission on Thursday.

What would YOU expect them to do about his trainer status?

The same thing I'd expect them to do with the license of the killerbuyer-slash-thoroughbred trainer that's stinking up Pinnacle. I won't post it on an open forum. Use your imagination.

luvmytbs, who is this? Since he's already gone to court and pled guilty, I would think you can post his name. I ask because I looked at a horse a couple of yrs ago at a Ky. "trainer"'s place and was apalled at the condition of his horses. Someone I know that lives in Ky. said that people have turned this guy in to the humane society several times, but he always gets wind of it before their inspection and puts out some round bales, etc.

never hurts to have an inside man I suppose.

ANYHOW somebody like that should not be allowed to hold a trainer card or be allowed any track ever.

I'm assuming it is this case/story: BloodHorse 9-13-08 "Trainer Pleads Guilty to Cruelty Charges"

Joseph D. “J.D.” Crescini, who signed the guilty plea Sept. 9, faces a recommended sentence of one year in jail, with 11 months suspended, and court costs. His sentencing in Nelson County District Court is scheduled for Oct. 21.

It is believed Crescini has been training in and around the Midwest since the early 1970s. Since 1980, Crescini is credited with 29 wins in 293 career starts, including one win in 18 starts in 2008, according to equinline.com.

    Thumbs up

Good for The Bloodhorse to pick this story up right away.

Now we wait for the Racing Commission to decide on his future status.

Too bad, different guy. I'm sure "my" guy is still running his place as normal. At least the horse I went to see was bought back by Adena Springs (where she was bred). Only bad part about that is that they probably gave him more than she was worth, which enabled him to buy more horses. He'll do that instead of putting the money into taking care of the ones he already has, and cleaning his place up.

Racing Commission's ruling and Crescini's appeal:

    And from Churchill:

Churchill Downs issued a stop Order ejecting Mr. Crescini from the grounds effective September 19, 2008. This “Stop Order” prevents Mr. Crescini from participating in racing at any track in the country until such time as the ejection order is lifted.

Darn, it wasn't "my" guy either. I sure am glad that they got one of these guys though. It's amazing how many TBs end up neglected/ abused
