    Talking All our 3-Day Olympic horses are mares!

    At least according to the press release from the Official Website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games' Equestrian Page....

    USA announces Eventing roster for Beijing Olympics
    Updated: 2008-07-17
    (BEIJING, July 17) -- The US Equestrian Federation has named its Eventing roster for the Beijing Olympic Games and is waiting for approval from the US Olympic Committee, Teamusa.org reported on July 15.

    Five rider-horse combinations, and four replacements, have been selected for the Eventing team:

    Phillip Dutton, aged 44, riding Connaught, a 15-year-old female Irish Sport Horse

    Becky Holder, 39, riding Courageous Comet, a 12-year-old female Thoroughbred Horse

    Gina Miles, 34, riding McKinlaigh, a 14-year-old female Irish Sport Horse.

    Amy Tryon, 38, riding Poggio II a 16-year-old female Thoroughbred Horse

    Heidi White, 42, riding Northern Spy, a 15-year-old female English Thoroughbred Horse

    Replacements:

    Bruce Davidson, Jr., 32, riding BallyNoe Castle RM, an eight-year-old female Irish Thoroughbred Horse

    Phillip Dutton, 44, riding Woodburn, a 13-year-old female Thoroughbred Horse

    Bonnie Mosser, 45, riding Merloch, an 11-year-old female New Zealand Thoroughbred Cross Horse

    Karen O'Connor, 50, riding Mandiba a nine-year-old female Irish Thoroughbred Horse

    The horses enter quarantine on July 22 and will arrive in Hong Kong on July 30. The Olympic Equestrian events will begin in Hong Kong on August 8.

    Well I guess since horses have 3 genders, stallion, mare and gelding....they may have misunderstood?

    Sounds like a bit of translation problem: gelding=no balls in English...no balls=mare in English translated from the Chinese that has been translated from the English.

    I can see it coming. We need a contest on the biggest translation error coming from the Olympics!
    I know some of those geldings are NOT amused!

    The press release was from the Official Website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. I "Googled" Olympic Games Equestrian Hong Kong, and got the website. I didn't check to see if the other disciplines were riding "females" as well.

    That's pretty funny since the top 5 are all Geldings...lol (I wouldn't tell the horses that they're being called mares.)

    Could be the perennial confusion over whether "m" means mare or male, or could be translation problems.

    Perhaps this is the real reason why the selection trials were closed to the public.
