Talking My 8 y/o son's Eventing debut - Warning proud mom brag

Last Friday my son and our pony went to Olde Hope and competed in the Greenhorn division. They placed 2nd out of 6th - ending on their Dressage score of 25.7%. What is so great about this place is that they allow the kids to have someone with them during all 3 phases. My son refused to have a lead line on but allowed my to be next to him and only help when he needed it.

Here are some pics of his day:

    Dressage:

Cross Country - Love his expression

With their ribbon - hot, tired, and ready to go home:

Welcome to the next generation!!! And please do what you can to encourage your son to stay with this...we lose so many boys to peer pressure along the way.

Both look super. Olde Hope was my first event, loved it. (are they still playing the ooom-pah music over the loudspeakers, though?)

    The pony really rocks.

I love horses and ponies who have figured out that the best gig in the world is taking care of a kid.

Thanks everyone. It was so much fun .

mjrtango93 - Actually yes you can have him - he is currently for sale.

Snoopy - I think he will stay with it. He loves going xc - buth then again who doesn't. I also have a soon to be 14 y/o that rides too.

Lori B - No oompa music but I think that was only because it wasn't the Oktoberfest event.

It is adorable - logs on the ground. About 5 'jumps' in the cross country phase and the smallest crossrails you can muster. At OldeHope, the cross country phase takes place on this path around a field that is fenced in with double fence and I have always seen parents running alongside their kids. It is very safe, but the kids still get a feel for eventing.

Dressage is done in the one fenced in ring, not in the bigger field with just the dressage chains. I believe Elementary is done in that ring also.

I love going to Olde Hope for the friendly atmosphere and great sense of safety that Jane promotes. It isn't perfect, but especially for the younger kids, keeping them safe is a very important part of the set up.

Amen to that! On the other hand, my son now really appreciates the ratio of female to male. . .

Mosmom - congrats to your son! I hope he sticks with it as well!
