We have a friend in TX that said she had several RR babies this spring - I will check with her and see what she thought; if I understood correctly that would mean it must be at least somewhat potent! I'll let you know...
We have been representing Rubin Royal for many years. There has never been a problem with the semen; the fertility and conception rates are very acceptable. He just hasn't been the most sought after of sires , paling to the flood of enthusiasm for Sandro Hit, then Sir Donnerhall and now Quaterback. Also, his younger brother, Blue Hors Romanov, made a very strong statement of his siring ability in his first foal crop, and has continued to impress ever since. The Romanov's tend to be leggier and more elegant, with a better hind leg. Rubin Royal has been interesting for hunter breeders, which is why perhaps this meessage board has not had much discussion on him. He remains a solid producer, giving us riding horses with good substance and excellent rideability.
I can't even imagine who would have the information (false, as it turns out) that Rubin Royal's semen does not freeze well. I am the only one who has imported the semen to the U.S., and we certainly have not had poor results. So, once again, sounds like a green eyed monster is spreading untruths. "Post thaw rate" has little to do with fertility. Proof is in the pudding, and his conception rate is well above average. I would have no hesitation using him if he fit my program. Once again, both he and Romanov will be a part of 2009 German Frozen Semen Program at Yancey Farms.
While I do not have a video to show you, a good friend of mine has gelding by Rubin Royal out of a Landadel mare. She showed him at Third Level this year and just got Reserve Champion at regionals. He is a WOW mover getting nines for his extended trot routinely throughout the year. He also got 9's and 8's on his gaits regularly - TONS of knee action. This was his first year at Third and his changes were not totally confirmed, so there were a few mistakes here and there. You really can't fault his quality - one super, super horse. He can be a bit hot and tense but other than that - he is phenomenal. When she gets that fixed - he is going to be hard to beat. Very good mind overall though - just a bit wired sometimes.
He was not bred in the US though - imported from Germany.
