I have not sent a pony to the sale or bought one in the past. I was wondering do any of you run ads promoting your ponies that are in the sale, hoping to get more people there to bid on your ponies or do you leave it to the Auction Company? How much time do you have between knowing your pony is definitly in the sale and the sale date?

I would think stirring up a little attention on your ponies prior to the sale might be helpful, maybe a link to your website where they can see video clips of the ponies schooling, showing or at liberty and creating a dialog with a possible bidder. It seems to me they would be more familar with your ponies and you, might give you a little advantage. Just a thought.

Do you question the people before you allow them to ride your pony? Like what is their price range or how much experience does the rider have or do you let anyone ride your pony that wants to? How do you manage your pony at the sale?

I'm probably going, but I skipped out on selling my three at the auction. I've already been offered what last years average was on each of them.. to good show homes. I look forward to seeing them at shows.. I have three for next year and they are doing great! I would love to report back on all the happenings..

I think the Pony Finals Auction is not at all like the Farnley auction and I have heard of many buyers planning to attend. Many factors are different for example, many of the Farnley ponies were not broke to ride, they were from similar bloodlines for the most part, many were odd sizes and you had to make a special trip there just for the auction. In contrast, many buyers will already be at Pony Finals competing and it is a great opportunity for them to see and try the sale ponies at the same time. My ponies have been on my web site, but not actively marketed before now as they really weren't ready and are still green. In my opinion, the sale is a great place to get started ponies out in front of a good many knowledgeable show people and hopefully they will all find great homes. At least in my area of the country, the people showing the top ponies don't really seem to be affected too greatly by the economy. Now, if someone is just trying to dump their junk in the auction, it might not be a great idea. But I feel that it is a good place to sell well-started quality ponies for a good price - not top dollar as in a BNT barn, but for a reasonably good price based on what training and showing has gone in to the pony. Just my opinion, of course, but I for one am choosing to be optomistic, and of course, quality has a way of showing through. There is enough pessimism going around .

I also heard there were many two year old's that were presented for sale and quite a few were denied. Lots of folks trying to downsize.

I couldn't agree more...what a great bunch of ponies. I'm taking two, a three year old going around and swapping leads and a two year old just started. I haven't been to Pony Finals in almost 10 years and I'm looking forward to it. I'm a big fan of the babies and I think this year they are more fabulous looking than the older group of ponies.

MEL0309Don't know if you have seen the preview but there are some top pony breeders and top pony winners listed in there - twelve ponies who have placed at Devon Pony Breeding (plus a few more that aren't listed).

POINTPONIESMine would be one of those not listed, Point of Grace was in the TOP 10 at Devon (2006-yearling fillies)

Seems like a lot of nice ponies - lots of pretty young ones too. It will be interesting to see them all in person. I am even tempted by a couple of the mares

    Default pony finals auction

I will be attending the auction in the purpose of purchasing a medium for a 6 yr old girl who now does short stirrup on a very old pony, she has great balance and can count her strides, lacking a little in style and grace yet but she is having fun. I was hoping someone could let me know if they were basically bringing a med. pony that would be a good basic good guy doesnt have to be the winner just safe, age is not a factor can be older, of course would have a great home, would like it to do the mediums at some point and of course we have a price limit of under 20k. Can you give some suggestions as to look for at the sale. Thanks A lot!

There is a good chance that I will post results "live" from the auction as I did last year.

The catalog is like being in a candy store. Are you supposed to be tempted, or are you trying to downsize? Don't look to any of us to talk you out of buying one or two, or three. We're all enablers.

I agree, too! What an awesome catalog. I think it could turn out to be a really exciting auction -- maybe the most exciting of all, gavel to gavel. There are just soooo many nice ponies!
