Default Her kittens all got adopted, but this mom-cat still needs a home! (Balto. MD)

    This is Momma:

    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3032/...6c1be5ae93.jpg

She lived in the Brooklyn Homes projects in Baltimore. Some people from a local feral cat group were doing a trap-neuter-return project there, and her "owners" (I use that term loosely ) walked up to my friend Yvonne and asked if they'd take Momma too. Momma had three four-week-old kittens she was still nursing, who the owners wanted to keep, but Yvonne said she was either taking them all, or none of them.

Momma got fixed and I fostered her and the kittens for a couple of weeks, until a couple of other needy cats needed their crate, and then fellow BBer Pixie Dust kindly took them for me. The whole family was supposed to go to a local rescue that puts cats in Petsmart adoption centers, but the rescue has since changed its policy and will only take the kittens, not the mothers. Pixie and I are awfully attached to Momma and want her to find a good home, so we thought we'd post the family here instead, in hopes of finding someone who would take Momma *and* one of her babies. (Or just Momma... her patience with her kittens is definitely running out and she wouldn't mind going somewhere without them, I'm sure! )

The kittens are 8 weeks old now and are big enough to get fixed (which I'm going to set up an appt for as soon as I post this!) and will be ready for new homes once that's done. There are two tuxedos (one male and one female) and one gray tabby (female) who looks just like Momma. The tuxedos have adorable little milk mustaches, and may very well grow up to be "Kitlers." The tuxedo boy has some conjunctivitis in one eye that we've been treating -- it's improving, but isn't completely gone yet, so depending on how soon he's adopted he may still need his eye drops twice a day until it's gone.

The kittens are, of course, sweet and adorable. The girl tuxedo seems to be the most people-oriented, and the tabby girl is the most adventurous. They all play well together. They use the litter box and a cardboard scratch pad.

Momma is "queen of all," including Pixie's 120-lb. Rottweiler. She wants very much to be the center of attention and doesn't understand why everyone is always playing with her kittens instead of her! She's quite friendly and talkative. It's hard to tell how well she gets along with other cats because she's in protective-mother mode, but so far she hasn't seemed all that interested in other felines. (Other than her kittens, of course.) She'd probably be fine as an only cat too.

I really, *really* want to find Momma a good home. She's been second fiddle to the kittens all this time and is ready to be the center of attention. She has all her vaccinations and is FIV/feluk negative.

The kittens should ideally go to a new home in pairs, or with Momma, or with another cat for company. (The itty bitty kittens get awfully lonely by themselves.) There will be an adoption fee of about $55, in the form of a check to the Maryland SPCA, for each kitten to cover the cost of their spay/neuter. (Although if someone was willing to take Momma *and* a kitten, I'd waive the fee. ) They'll get vaccinated/wormed/tested at that time also. Momma's vet work is already paid for, so no adoption fee for her.

    Here are the kittens:

Indoor-only (or indoor with supervised outdoor time only) homes please, and preferably no declawing. I'm willing to deliver anywhere within reasonable driving distance, and I have a VERY generous definition of reasonable!

If you have any questions ask away. These are the sweetest little kitties. The momma just want's to be loved. She snuggles up on the couch at night for TV time. They are all very polite too, always use the litter box.

Giving this a little bump. The kittens are getting fixed on Tuesday and will be ready to go to new homes shortly after that. And Momma reeeeeaaaaally wants to be somebody's snuggle buddy!

These kitties really do like people. When I come home from work, I feel like a rock star because they are all over me, hello hello hello!!!! but once I'm hanging out, then they just like to hang out. They especially like to assist in my yoga practice, which is very calming.

    Default Possibly??

I assume they have all been Fel-luk testes. I would be interested in either that Mom or one of the kittens. I have two cats and a Jack Russell who loves all cats so whichever one needed a home the most I would take one. The kicker is I am in Lexington, KY but I would be willing to meet you someplase so that they have good homes.

And I had been meaning to bump this thread today!

The kittens got fixed yesterday and all are recovering great. They were tested for feline leukemia (still too young to FIV test, but their mother was neg.) and are negative. Got their rabies vaccinations also. So they are ready to go!

Mama cat very much considers herself to be queen of the household, but as long as the other kitties do her bidding, she seems pretty OK with them. But Pixie's had more of a chance to see her interacting with other adult cats so she's better able to assess that than I am.

The kittens seem to love any other cats and have been around dogs a little, so they'd probably be fine with all that too.

Darnit, I was just in Lexington a couple of weeks ago. But I'm sure transportation can always be organized for good homes!

well let me know and i would be willing to drive as well.
i have two cats and a jack russell and last night all three of them were playing with the cat toy with feathers. the jack russell loves cats actually more than he loves other dogs. one of my cats is a stray that my friend who is a vet found and tested and spayed from me and the other cat and dog are both from the local humane society. here are their sucess stories from the website.
let me know if you need a home for one and then we can discuss further details.

The mom cat is not a dog lover. Not to say that she cannot live with a dog, but what she really likes is to lounge around with her pick of the floor. My dog has to get out of her way. He's like a trained elephant, I say "okay Sampson, go lie down in the living room while I feed the kitties." And he does. He is very respectful of her and the kitties because she made it clear who was in charge. She is tolerant of my cats, but is not in love with them. She does really like me though.

The kittens, the KITTENS! They are good kittens. They have befriended my black kitty, he's been their Uncle Bobbin. And I catch them all playing all sorts of kitten games. I must say, I have some good cats to put up with all this. They stay out of mom-cat's way and are gentle with the little ones.

    So cute!

The little boy tuxedo has found a great home (I actually walk past his new house every day on my way to the park with the dog!), but the two girl kittens are still looking for a family of their own... and they would looooove to be adopted somewhere together! Their names, btw, are Franny (the tabby) and Zooey (the tuxedo). And mom is still available too... hmm, need to come up with a name for her.

ssuspicionxc, I will definitely keep you in mind, if we are not able to find anybody more local. One way or another, we'll find homes for everybody!

    A bump...

Boy, it has REALLY been rough going for adoptions lately. I've been posting these guys on Craigslist, and they've also gone to an adoption show at a Petco... no takers! The economy is really making a mess of things... the "market" is flooded with cats people are giving up, the shelters are swamped, and sweet little kittens like these are going unadopted.

They're going to another adoption show on Saturday, which I'm not crazy about because I like to be picky about who they go to... and the adoption shows tend to get the impulse adopters.

SOMEONE out there on COTH must need a kitten or two!

I am over run with mice at Pimlico, think Mama might want to be a barn cat? She looks like she has grown accustomed to the good life inside the house.

Hmm... well, she has always been a housecat (although obviously they let her out long enough to get pregnant ) as far as I know. She was not a stray, but was given up to some volunteers who were doing a trapping project.

She definitely wants lots of attention, so might like somewhere with lots of people to meet and beg for ear scritches from. But she might not be much of a mouser either. Hard to tell.

I'll send you a PM to find out some more details. But even if it doesn't look like Mama is a good match, I can definitely find someone else who is!

Nothing seems to phase the mom-cat. I mean within 5 minutes of Erin bringing her to my house, she was lounging around like she owned it. I'm not sure how good of a mouser she'd be, she doesn't move around too much, but they can surprise you. One of my house cats is a very good mouser, and she's such a princess.

What is the barn situation like? She really likes people. I think she'd be fine living in a barn, as long as she gets patted by people.

So all the kittens found new homes over the summer, but Pixie still has the mom-cat, who's now named Bella.

Shortly after her kittens got adopted, we discovered that Bella had absolutely *horrible* teeth. (My vet said it was actually among the worst she'd ever seen.) She probably had been in pain for quite some time, poor thing. I took her in for a dental and they actually had to extract almost all of her teeth, but she is MUCH more comfortable now... you can tell she feels a lot better, and her coat has gotten better too.

She needs no special care -- she eats wet and dry food just fine. She just needs routine checkups to make sure her mouth is still in good shape. (And on the bright side, this means her new owner will never have to spring for expensive dental cleanings, since she doesn't have many teeth left to clean! )

She is really quite a character, and just exudes feline-ness... she considers herself undisputed queen of her kingdom, but she's nice enough to share it if she likes you. She gets along OK with Pixie's other cats and her dog, but is definitely a very alpha personality and wants things to be HER way. She would probably prefer to be an only cat, but could assimilate into an existing kitty family also, if the personalities were such that she could be in charge.

She's very affectionate toward people, and not at all shy -- she'll walk up to anyone to say hi. She likes to keep Pixie company at the computer and on the couch watching TV.

She's one of those cats who's hard to photograph for some reason, but here are some more recent pics:

And Pixie also took a video of Queen Snuggles-a-lot in action.

Anyone who's a cat aficionado would really get a kick out of this girl... here's hoping she can find a permanent home of her own soon!
