Thumbs up Olympics:Youngest competitor ever in dressage riding her pure-bred Lusitano Stallion

Sixteen year old Luiza Tavares de Almeida from Brasil has qualified for the Olympic Games at HongKong. With her Lusitano Samba (v. Inca) she scored the necessary points during the CDI at Sao Paulo.

The Brazilians are really one of the good stories this year.

Luiza Almeida was FIFTEEN when her score gained the team bronze for the Brazilians at Pan Ams last year.

I think she found out only the last day possible that she would be not alternate but the 3rd team member for Pan Am.

    And Rogerio Clementino's success is...spectacular!

www.dressagedirect.com has a lovely story about his rise from farm labourer to FEI dressage rider to representing his country , and a google search turns up great photos as well.

And both riders are riding pure-bred Lusitano stallions!

I'm going to venture a guess that it's *not* the chestnut.....since it says "Lusitano." The chestnut is definitely not a Lusitano!!

The grey is definitely Lusitano and he has the brand as well.

    That is outstanding.

One of the things I like most about the Olympics is seeing new countries participate. I wish them much success, and the Japanese rider too!

The chesnut is ridden by an Italian at Athens. Therefore, NOT Luiza.

Oops, made a mistake on my flags. It is a French flag, not Italian.

Christilot Boylen was 17 when she competed in 1964 Olympics. So what is that, 44 years she has been competing at Olympic level???

If Luiza Almeida lasts half as long as Boylen, she will have a long career.

    Wink

No one's going to complain that there's other riders deserving to be recognized more than her, simply because of her age?

Seriously, that's awesome. I can't imagine comprehending that at that age (though it's regular for athletes of other sports). I know i didn't have the patience and maturity to ride well at 16 (I still don't!)

Awesome for her, can't wait to see how she does!
