Default My mare needs jingles, please :( UPDATE: Jingles worked!

My mare (well, actually I'm just leasing her) that is at day 302 is colicky. She ate her dinner tonight, but then started pawing. Turned her out with her buddy after giving her some banamine and she was fine for several hours. Got uncomfortable again, so was palpated; everything feels normal, baby is alive, no impaction or torsion or displacement found. BUT passed a naso-gastric tube and she has reflux. Now we are getting her on IV fluids, getting some frog support on her and trying to get her comfortable. I'm really scared and I almost wish it were one of my own horses, instead of a leased horse. Please jingle for her and the unborn baby.

    JINGLES

It sounds like you are doing all that you can, hang in there.

I leased a mare this year too, so I understand the additional worries!

Thanks for the well-wishes guys! It was the strangest thing, but shortly after we started working on her last night (after I posted) she just seemed to snap out of it. Her gum color started improving, she became comfortable, wanting to eat and the reflux stopped. I checked her every hour throughout the night and she continued to be normal. She is now turned out with her sister and I can watch her from my living room window; just grazing quietly.
My husband said he's never seen a colic go from looking so serious to normal in such a short time. We don't really know what happened; best guess right now is that the baby was in a strange position and had actually "pinched off" part of a small intestine, causing the reflux and pain. BUt it would have had to sat like that for quite a while to cause the symptoms we were seeing. Strange, but I'm so thankful that she is doing well. You can bet I will be watching her like a hawk from now on!
