I'm conducting a little research for a book project. Seriously. And while I wish it were a more earth-shattering topic-- like contemplating the use of draw reins or how much bling one should wear in the show arena-- this is simply about horse treats.
So... What is your horse's favorite treat?
Is it peppermints, commercially packaged "horse cookies", fresh carrots (a little mundane but always reliable), licorice (red or black?), soda (my sister's old horse had an unending craving for orange soda pop), donuts, or... ?
Carrots are great, but if I don't feed them all at once, then they tend to sit and get slimy in my tack trunk. So, I usually go for horse "cookies" - Otto's not fussy, he will eat them all! His absolute favorite are peppermints, and he detests watermelon.
Costco brand organic animal crackers. - I took em down to the barn just for some snacks (for me). I was munching on them outside his stall and he could not get his head out far enough to reach for one of those.
Peppermint snacks made by START. He loves those. Not actual peppermints though
