I'm back in the saddle too -- haven't been on much recently since my last two daughters were born. But now I'm riding again when time allows. Hoping that COTH will inspire me to keep on keepin' on!

Great suggestions to the above. Also, get involved with your local hrosey community, and find a friend with truck and trailer! I'd love to pick somebody up to have a schooling buddy.
Feeling...

I think Barney Mullady is still in that area - I rode with him about a hundred years ago, he was wonderful.

First thing, when kids AND horses are involved, throw any plan out the window!! You're only going to set yourself up for disappointment!
I just had my 3rd daughter, and for the 3rd time I am...

Hey Bearcat - is this the MHHR derby? If so you could email/call Vanda and ask her.... I imagine they are pretty relaxed rules. They just want people to go and have a good time.
We'll be there...

I see two major factors in creating "The Gap": Time and Money. Or rather, lack of one or both. The Dreaded Gap can come at any point in life.
I was lucky enough to ride a ton in my 20's (had...

I got a HEATED hose from my hubby. Where oh where has this been all my life??? Brilliant!

Something similar happened to me many years ago when I was going training. My local omnibus printed the test to ride as Training B, but the USEA omnibus printed it (correctly) as Training A. The...

Cute horse - but sorry I just can't get past the helmet-less, stirrup-less, pants-less rider in the video. And I'm a pretty open minded gal. But riding in a dress and sneakers???? The spot where...

Great suggestions so far. Next time you give it a try, be sure you have given her a good hard workout in the ring, then walk right out into your field - arrange your ride so that the walking itself...

I mostly go by myself, but seems like I always know a whole bunch of people there, or at least I make friends with the trailer next to me, so it's still a social occaission :) Post here on CoTH and...

Yes! Try Tomora right on Hwy 34 - Lindy Weatherford trains out of there and they host lots of events. I don't know anything about the care there, but the facility is excellent and Lindy is the BEST.

I sympathize too. I have a 21 year old in the pasture that I had to retire at age 15 because of a cyst in his navicular bone, also with a DDFT injury similar to sid's. It Was Heartbreaking. At...

Half halts.

Sorry, I have to disagree. Yanking on a horse's face is NEVER okay. Never. Try a bit in your own face sometime if you don't believe me.

I have 3 different trainers at the moment for the different phases - not ideal I suppose, but it's working for me! I keep my horses at home and trailer out for lessons.
I am just returning to...

Well, the only way to find out how she'll be on XC is to do it! Here's the story of my summer: My current eventer had been away from the scene for around 4 years when we got back into it together,...

Cindy, if this person is truly your friend, and if she falls off a horse she might die, why oh why did you not recommend that she take up knitting instead? I don't care how broke or perfect a horse...

Hilarious craigslist ad!!! No, I did not post this. :D

Very, very cool setting and wonderful course. My only (minor) complaint was that the footing in the warmup arena was quite rocky - but that was about 8 years ago so it may have changed since then.
-
Pssst - might want to delete the name out of your first post then too ;)

It also common around here for them to be just dressage and xc. Big fun and cheap!

Seriously? You would leave your horse to stand loose, lead rope dragging on the ground, at a show??? Do you not realize that all it takes is a loose horse galloping by and your horse is gone? I...

1 - At a clinic I saw a young gal who had tied her horse to a temporary stall panel. Thank goodness she was on the end one because - you know what 's coming - horse spooked, pulled back, tore the...
