Pretty psyched... there is an unexpected half lease opportunity at the barn where I ride, on a horse that is currently competing at the Intermediate level. He is older and a schoolmaster type......

Lady E, that is my thought as well. It's how we found my much beloved childhood horse-- 16 year old was moving on to AQHA, the horse was small and more a foundation type, the TB types were getting...

She is retired, at the ripe old age of 9.
After multiple vets, diagnostics, treatment and changes to management I finally just gave up.
She lives about an hour south of me with a really...

Shermy, OMG I want to steal your palomino!
A friend of mine went to Wyoming for vacation to visit a friend who has a proper working ranch, and came home with two ranch horses!! They are The...

Thanks all.
Yes, yes, Tucked Away... that is I. I've gambled on projects and not won, so this time it really would be nice to find something DOING the job already. A lease would be even more...

My concern would be that something coming down the levels is going to be more sensitive and/or hotter than what I want or need.
I basically want to lope around an intro XC course on a HUS QH. ;)

Thanks, ake. That was sort of my thought process, too. It'd be nice to have something that sort of knew its job, which is why I'm reluctant to go the route of a brand new OTTB this time around.

I love that Outfoxed site... I've been eyeing that QH up for awhile.
PP your description fits my childhood horse perfectly. He too was a big grey QH who did *everything*. My parents bought him...

I grew up doing 4-H, AQHA, riding my aunt's Arabs and showing local hunters. In college and through most of my 20's I have ridden a lot of random horses, mostly very low end sale horses, and then...

Yeah, I agree. He was nicely presented on the website, but I'm not impressed with the pics, and his hind end looks funky.
-
I dunno, I'd see that as a bonus. I'd rather see one unstarted than doing futurities at 2 years old.

QHs have always been near and dear to my heart, having owned 3 and done 4-H and AQHA as a kid. The problem with QHs is that there are so many types within the breed. Some of the western bred horses...

KPF, you would have loved the horse I've been part-leasing, except he is quite boingy/springy. But he literally has NO spook whatsoever and he has impeccable breaks. So there ARE horses like that...
-
I liked him. I thought he had a decent canter. I liked some of their other horses too...... update us after you see him!
-
Just Say No. Give them the name of a reputable lesson barn.
If they persist, blame it on liability.

In this day and age, the owner should be able to get a short vid for you before you trek 6 hours round trip!

Read that article a few days ago, did not realize it was our own LH!
Oh I remember the days of Merry... and Beezer.... I used to enjoy following their adventures.

Well, I dunno. From a business perspective, if you have a client that is spending $$ regularly, you are bound to pay that person a little more attention.
I work in a service-based industry and...

Here's the thing-- it doesn't really matter what you were able to do "back in the day," the instructors/ trainers need to teach to where you are NOW. I'm not at all discounting your experience, but...

YES. Used this stuff 5 or so years ago on an Appendix gelding and he Lost His Mind on it.
-
Good to know, thank you! I've always been in the "horses should have a job" camp and have tried to keep him going with that in mind. Given the apparent wear and tear in his joints (he's got some...

My friend just emailed me tonight about Voice Me Out, anyone know anything about her? She looks lovely. Friend lost her big bay gelding last spring and this girl looks an awful lot like him...
-
Ah Lori you are too kind. I will admit to having a soft spot for the hard-up beasts... but luckily whatever horse I've had has always been ridable, for the most part, so I've never had to face...
