This has definitely happened to me multiple times with my horse. When something is not right with him, I know. Other people often will say he "seems fine" or whatever, but I've learned to trust...

This horse actually HATES birds. Has always been spooky about them. Probably more afraid of them than a mountain lion, actually. We were within about 8 feet of a coyote one day when I was taking...

Ha, I know! That's why I was worried! He's kind of concerned about the woods generally anyway. When we are done riding in the arena, he is much better if I ride him out and back to the barn...

Update: we were not attacked by a mountain lion during our ride. We did have a close encounter with a crow that had a suspicious look about him, but we were able to avoid an attack THIS TIME.

I'm going for it - I'm about to go ride outside. I blame all of you if I get eaten by a mountain lion. Oh, and, yes, my horse is very spooky. I'm sure he will be the first to let me know if there...

Mountain Lions...how worried should I be?

There were recently two mountain lion sightings right near the barn where I board. Both were early morning, around the time that I ride. So...how worried should I be? Will probably ride inside...

Thanks for your continued concern, Countrywood. I'm glad you think you fully understand the details of my arrangement with this horse. Of the two teens that will still handle him on days where he...

Exactly. Because we are both horse saavy adults and the situation isn't nearly the unworkable poop storm that some people envision.

I'm done responding to ridiculous comments on this thread. I have a resolution to the issue. I don't think the horse is an angel, but he's also not some menacing danger as some apparently think. ...

I actually went back and looked at what I wrote about him when he was handled by the grooms that handled stallions and it's not super clear. In my first post I said we have the behavior to where it...

No, go back and read what I wrote about when he was handled by stallion handlers. The behavior did NOT go away, but it was a non-issue because the handlers were capable of diffusing it. He still...

Sigh. As I said, *I* handle this horse at LEAST twice a day and reinforce manners constantly. So he IS getting good handling at least twice a day every day. The BO will not just "deal with it" to...

I should also add that most of the time the barn owner is around. Just not always. With some planning, I think we can figure this out.

Countrywood - they are very capable of handling him most of the time, even on days when he is simply "up" but not out of his mind. I'm not going to prohibit them from EVER handling him.

Yes, he's been examined many times for many things in the 7 years I've had him. He had his eyes checked in April, actually, for an unrelated issue with his sclera that ended up being nothing. This...

Countrywood, I'm not sure why you are so worked up about this when I have made it clear that I'm taking action to deal with the issue. Since I became aware of the problem no teenager has handled him...

I just want to make it clear that I'm not planning to allow him to continue terrorizing teenagers. I'm working on a plan. Also, for the record, he's been fine all summer (and this isn't really an...

Interesting, Candico. For those that don't know, this is an EPSM horse. Candico and I have discussed EPSM stuff before, which is why she knows that about him.
