I guess the first question is, is the owner looking to maximize profit or own an international horse? If the want to maximize their profit, they should have you take him through the lower levels and...

Hi there! I live quite close to you in Orange. There is actually a barn in Anaheim but I wouldn't reccomend it, except out of convenience but it may be worth checking out for some low-level...

I know half a dozen people that work for them in the OC. Wonder if you know any of them? If they want to sponsor someone, I'll volunteer!
I always school in them but never show. My eyes...

The great thing about e-bay is that the buyers end up setting the price. You just have to decide if the minimum you set is worth the hassel, then let the market bid up the price.
FWIW, I...

So fun! PJ was a star today (after his SECOND turn out). I even popped him over a couple of jumps and he was perfect.

I have one bit of physical advice, and the other mental:
1) Ride with your reins as "driving reins" or upside down. That is the rein comes from the bit, through the top of your hand, and out the...

I didn't read all the replies, but my thought would be not to really plan for it at first. Just let it happen. Maybe you have a good buddy that could go out for a trail ride with a bit of trotting...

This is good info. Thanks! What about the footing, warm-up areas, stabling, etc.? Is this the first year they are doing shows there?

Has anyone gone? Thoughts? I am considering a couple of weeks away this summer and would like some feedback on the venue, photos would also be great. I wish Pebble Beach was happening this year. :(...

I think how you approach the question will make a difference in your response.
If you find a trainer you really like, give the reasons WHY you want to groom yourself, and offer a "trial" period....

He, Ashley, and a few others are in Florida this year trying to qualify for the WEG. It wasn't quite the same without them.

Somewhat off topic, but I was always told that if you are going at a faster gait (or jumping) that you stay to the inside. I almost got in an accident at the last show following this rule, so then...

The Canadians really cleaned up this year!

Agreed - no trials, especially for more expensive horses. However, your friend could ask if they would trailer the horse to her barn for a ride there, or if that isn't close, anywhere off the farm.
-
Agreed! Next thing you know, she will start taking out her personal issues on the horses. Then you will have reason to leave, too!
I think everyone gave great advice, but only YOU know the...

OK, since we are on the same subject (maybe it is even the same reason) can anyone explain why you throw salt on the road/sidewalks to MELT the ice, but when making home made ice cream you use rock...

I absolutely think it gets a lot of respect and SHOULD be a rated division. PCHA offers a year-end award for it. Typically the Modified Jr/Am classics out here offer MORE prize money than the...

The Canadians are kicking butt in all the levels!
I was very, very impressed with the talent (horse and rider) I saw in the upper level divisions.
Yes, a lot of the usual suspects went...

I agree with PEggy. I a 99% sure there are no USEF specs for Short Stirrup, pricisely because it is NOT a USEF rated division. At a USEF rated show where SS classes are held, I'd expect kids to...

I did it for the better part of a year. It was basically a full-time job, as I wanted to reply to everyone, even if it was just a "thanks but no thanks" e-mail. I learned quickly to not reply to...

He looks fabulous! Baby Greens, here you come!

I'm sllllooowly moving up the jumper levels and am interested to know how many classes per show week is normal for 1.30 meter jumpers and above.
I used to do 2 classes Thursday & Friday then 1...

Whatever the real definition of Private Treaty, that was just an odd response from the seller/trainer. If there were so many lingering offers out there he needed to collect them all, he could have...
