I just had to smile at the implication that 2-handed driving was, well, so offensive (or dare I say American). :) I took a minute to do a google search on images from the driving world championships...

I've had 2 experiences in the past 2 years that would make me err on the side on caution in this situation--
1. Our event horse developed unilateral nasal discharge with no other clinical signs....

Reminds me of why I stopped showing on the quarter horse circuit and moved over to eventing (the dark side!) and driving. ;)

I started riding my husband's 13.2-hand driving pony to help with his dressage. I'm 5'3 and his round barrel takes up my leg well. He is a lot of fun to ride, but I do have to be very correct in my...

Thanks so much for all your nice comments! :)
The Devon "marathon" or pleasure drive takes place on the Sunday before Memorial day. It offers the following divisions:
- 2-Wheel Vehicle, Single...

Ah thanks! Aaron and I have been at Garden State the past weekend (navigating and grooming for 2 single prelim horses and an advanced pony), so I'm just catching up with COTH this morning. :)

I would say that in our area (southeast PA) pleasure shows and CDEs are about the same in populariy.
On the CDE side, we have:
Lord Stirling Stables CDE (NJ)--1 hr away
Garden State CDE (NJ)--1...

I was wondering how you were doing! :) Welcome back! Great picture and glad to see you are still enjoying driving.

No, I cannot take credit for that magnificant clip! I have a hard enough time doing clips with lines, much less stars. I love just a full body clip--can't screw that up too bad unless you...

Thomas--This one's just for you:

Not a monogram, but talk about a bling-ey hair cut! :D
P.S. No, this is not my pony!...

Hi Cartfall--
Here's my best description...perhaps Friesian4me can add to it. :)
Hazard 1--The Water
This hazard is nestled in the woods and has 2 stream crossings, one of which includes a...

Just thought I'd post an update--
What a great CDE! Despite raw, misty weather on Friday and Saturday, the rain stayed away until Saturday night and then cleared Sunday morning for a beautiful...

Aw, thanks! We'll be in Prelim pony too, so I look forward to meeting you. :) Good luck this weekend!

Oh, that's good to know about the bicycles. I could have sworn we saw some out there last year, but I could be remembering wrong. Wouldn't be the first time!
Yes, the ground is much better this...

Hey there!
Last year they only allowed ATVs to the edge of the course. It really wasn't too bad to walk to the hazards, but we put in our bicycle this year just in case its the same situation....

Prince and ponies--
Off the top of my head, here is what we normally have in our spares kit for marathon (and I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff):
Leather punch
Wheel wrench
Rein splice...

Great suggestions! :D
Goodhors--Yes, one animal is a real luxury! And we actually share our pony Merlin--Aaron drives him and I ride him (hoping to event soon). With our work schedules (both work...

Okay, I admit it--I'm a horse show junkie! Especially when it comes to going away for a few days. I've always been this way and thought perhaps the excitement would dull after many years of...

Little late too!
I'm 5'3 and ride a 13.2 hand Welsh Section B pony. He's my husband's combined driving pony, but I've been schooling him under saddle. He is a great little jumper (no pics yet...

Ah, women after my own heart! I'm a country/classic rock/classical person too.
But back to the discussion at hand, I think it is a shame that in ridden dressage, you are penalized for using your...

Hackney Horse Driver's pricing on the Freedman sounds about right--I've heard an average of $6K.
We have a very nice friend who allowed us to borrow her Freedman gig harness last year--what can...

Congrats Ashemont! Great pics. :)
I discovered a "new" clip this year (thanks to Deltawave on the Eventing Forum)--the Chaser Clip. We normally do a trace or blanket clip in the winter, but for...

I haven't read all the responses, but thought I'd add my 2 cents since my husband is an eventer and is the person who introduced me to the sport.
I definitely agree with those who say that guys...

Annika,
I just want you to know that this is the first thread I check every day on COTH. I am praying for your boys and hoping that 2008 finds them both healthy and well. They are so lucky to...

Hi BarbB!
Believe me, once you start driving, you'll be hooked. And ponies are just the best. Both Aaron and I came to combined driving from eventing, and the sports complement each other well...
