I like pellets better because the bedding composts faster than shavings. They also kill urine odor better.
I keep old socks and use one on my hand, then throw the sock away.

I've had good experiences with Just For Ponies, too. I haven't ordered a saddle but have ordered other tack and blankets, also returned things without any problems.
We had a bad load with it from Eastern WA. Very nasty stuff.

We do FECs, too and have only needed to worm twice a year, on the vets recommendation. I feel better using fewer chemicals and the horses look great.
