Can you let the water "drip"? I leave the hose on a very low spray with the nozzle down inside the trough. It won't work if it gets too cold out for too long though.
A "rule of thumb" on low stress exercise for the horse is to keep everything at a "natural" gait like you would if hacking. Light contact with an easy going rhythm.
Incorrectly done half-halts could put a strain on an injury.

You're lucky you didn't kill your horse. Have you ever learned anything about proper stable management (that includes how to properly feed and care for your horse)?
My vet probably didn't know that at the time. He sent me to the pharmacy out in the sticks where I live to tide my pony over for the Fourth of July weekend. I can't remember which 'issue' it was, but...
My vet sent me to the store over the weekend one time to by Phisohex and we both found out you now need a prescription for that. He was stunned.
And BOREDOM can be equally stressful.
