Hey WW-Queen, thought I would let you know that I heard back from my vet. Can't get that stuff to Canada. Wedgewood and US Compounding Pharmacy can't ship to Canada without a US vet license.
Although I read that you felt quarter sheets would not be a good option, have you had the chance to look and feel one of these quarter sheets from Horseware?...
I love them too. Anyone know where one can get 100g one for the best price? I love how light they are. Only issue is during the dry winter months. !!ZZZAP!!
Heh, I love this quote: "We ALL see ourselves on "The Black Stallion," when often what we NEED is "Tony the Pony!""
So your vet wrote you a prescription for Pentaussie from Allivet? How does the price of Pentaussie compare with Cartrophen?
I appreciate the information you posted TWH but I'm just not a fan of Legend or generic Legend. I may be wrong but I do question the effectiveness of it. I'm also not a fan of Adequan (although I...
Yup. That's why I really wanted to try Pentosan. Were you able to try it? If so, did you use the Cartrophen? Or was your vet able to source a compounded version in a Canadian compounding pharmacy?
Is it complicated/expensive for a Canadian vet to become dually licensed? Just curious! :)
Heh, yes! I also can't find anywhere in Canada that would be able to fill a vet's prescription for compounded injectable Pentosan. The only Pentosan I can get legally is Cartrophen's at $164 per...
I called US Compounding yesterday. They said my vet must have a Prescriber's license for the US in order for it to be filled.
I just called Wedgewood and they don't accept prescriptions from Canadian vets so I guess my quest is done with.
No Pentosan for my horse.
I'm pretty sure they have Adequan but it wasn't something that I was interested in.
Thanks though! :)
Will do. I assume you mean a compounded prescription?
I would be allowed to get Cartrophen Vet (PPS @100mg/mL - strength intended for dogs), but I would have to inject 10mL to get the required...
I'm tempted to roach my horse's mane too. I live in an area where it gets cold, snowstorms, freezing rain etc. My horse lives out. I go back and forth on doing it or not. I wondered if it's better...
Did you get a pharmacy to compound your dog strength Pentosan? If so was it a Canadian compounding pharmacy? Just wondering if then they could do a 250mg/mL concentration as well?
Thanks for the information. I will pass this on to my vet. Fingers crossed.
Wow, $200 for a 10mL bottle? So for the first month (where one does the shots once a week for 4 weeks) a Canadian is looking at shelling out $800.
Incredible. I guess that's why most...
I prefer a smaller horse too (I'm short!). I say go check her out. You guys might mesh :) You never know!
Aw! Cute! Thanks for sharing :)
I was on the site for Cartrophen Vet (pentosan polysulfate sodium for dogs). The horse strength is not available for Canadians though.
Any Canadians out there successful getting their vets to...
I didn't see anything about this in the link??
I would think that your local store should be able to get it in? I noticed a month ago that my local feed store started carrying it.
Another source as some other posters mentioned is...
You won't be judged by me either. Just jingles and thoughts of peace. As everyone else has said, you are doing what is best for her. I know some day I will be in the same position as you.
Just curious, what does the Reducine do when rubbed into the heel bulbs?
