Mine do this too. The stallion does too. I figured that they got it from him.
They do not do it under saddle so it doesn't worry me. They have done this since they were babies.
"broken leg lame" is usually 1 of 2 things a broken leg or an abcess. Luckily it is usually the latter rather than the former.
I walked into the barn from teaching an up/down lesson, the little girl says to me "look! Murphy is holding his dinner bucket!"
I look over and indeed he was holding his bucket but not with his...
I had almost this exact scenario happen to me.
The girl rode with me. Her horse was on long term stall rest and she had nothing to ride. I said that she could work with my sale horse if she...
Yes, keep riding him to keep him lame. Don't give him any NSAIDS for a couple days before he goes so that it doesn't mask a problem.
He's lame RH which can sometimes look like RF.
Definetly take him down to Liz or as I call her "Hammer" (her maiden name) she's great.
Dr. Medideth Snader.
From PA but lives in Wellington now. She's great. I tech for her when she comes up. I can give you her #.
Great thanks guys for MORE things to worry about.
Ugh! The stuck eyeball. Blaaaah!
Put him down?!?!?
Did we read different things? Correct me if I'm wrong but vet said that he was sound right? Maybe a 1/2 degree off. Um, 1/2 degree is nothing.
Why on earth would she put him...
Yep, that's what my guess would be too.
Not sure if I do anything about it if he is sound. He doesn't scuff or drag his toe at all right?
They are all on depo. Can make a horse's neck cresty.
Did he say if he could feel an effusion or swelling?
A suspensory injury would not get better with warm up.
This still fits stifle issue.
Seems like he might have stung the foot when he hit that rail then didn't want to continue. Try and notice if this is a pattern.
Checkout his feet. I also think that he looks generally foot sore.
I don't see anywhere that you have looked at his stifle.
You had mentioned a toe drag. I would definetly look at the stifle for this reason.
X Ray and ultrasound the whole joint. I wouldn't give...
Thanks for your reply.
Mine has the halter included but has no Velcro. It seems pretty sturdy.
Getting it off doesn't concern me as much as getting caught ( her foot, friends foot, etc)
So, I've been very lucky in the past with caring for my ponies by having dirt paddocks that I can move them to if their grass gets too good for them. And the ones that stayed in the grass...
5 cc every other day for 5 doses.
Must ride hard during this time every day without missing a day.
Then no maintenance doses needed. However, if he is off for more than a couple weeks we...
If he will be clipping on his own time going rate is $125-$150. I would pay him that minus the 25% for equipment.
$100 if he is on the clock. $75 is too low.
Show clips (ears, muzzle, bridle path etc) I wouldn't pay extra or expect to BE paid extra.
Body clipping is another story. Body clipping (I feel ) is above and beyond what day to day should be. It...
You need to listen to what your poor horse is now SCREAMING at you. He is in pain.
He would rather hurt his left side with a whip as opposed to now turning to the right.
Please have the best...
Not sure what it is but it is definitely NOT foxtail.
It is some sort of seed head though. I would feed it.
I still think it was shivering from having a high temp. Nothing more. I've seen it many times and it's nothing to worry about once the fever is resolve.
Do you know why he had a high fever? I...
You took temp 10 or so mins after giving Banamine at which point he was also starting to break out in a sweat?
Sounds and looks like plain old shivers from very high temp. 103.5 after Banamine is...
Have you taken films of this foot yet? I wonder if there might be some foreign body in there that might be trying to work its way out or possibly a bone infection.
Honestly, before they cut this...
