I have used flax bedding. It's shredded straw (flax shives). Pro: really absorbent, I use it in the wet spots in my regular straw bedded stalls, and have a neat filly bedded completely on flax.
I would say it's highly unlikely that the JC will get involved unless there is a court judgement involved.

Not a professional, but I believe the photo always belongs to the photographer. In any case, I think a model release has to be signed by the photo subjects for photos being sold to a publication...
