Thanks everyone for your empathy, support and ideas. I have employed most of your strategies at one point or another during my lesson gaps and for the most part I do pretty well. I'm just in a...

I admit this is sort of a vent...but hoping others feel this way too sometimes to make me feel better. A bit of history:
I've ridden various green beans a few days/week and on my own for much of...

First, I believe dressage bits have to be of 1 type of metal throughout, so this would not be legal if you decide to show someday since it has a copper bean. Plus it says it's a 20mm mouthpiece. That...

Just to address the comment that riding with large knee rolls or a deep seated saddle means that you haven't developed a competent or educated seat....that is just not true. I personally know GP...

After riding in my trainer's Kieffer Lusitano and Ulla Salzgeber saddles, I now own both. They are very similar in that the larger knee rolls and deep seat "encourage" you to sit very upright and...

Your issue is one most dressage riders wrestle with throughout their riding journey, so #1, don't feel like you're alone.
With some of my students who really have an issue with bending their...

Yes, I've had a Country Pride 1200D, 300g heavy blanket for the last 2 winters. Fits my med-boned WB nicely. It is substantial, waterproof and as nice a blanket as I've had. A very good value for the...

I was of the paddock boots & half chaps camp - save the tall boots for shows/clinics. Then I was "inspired" to start wearing tall boots for everyday schooling. It did make a difference. My lower leg...

I'm actually looking for the stuff that goes over the length of the whip, not the hand-grip portion. But keep the ideas coming :)

Hey, me too! But now I'm looking for something that looks a more finished and doesn't get gooey in my hands over time :)

Hello, does anyone know where to find braided nylon sleeving to re-cover a whip?? Thanks in advance!

I do not use shipping boots and with most of the shippers recommending against them (and they have way more experience than most of us), I've followed their advice and never regretted it. If you...

I've always had chrome nameplates on dressage bridles. I put mine on the crown piece. My European trainer puts them on the crown or on the cheekpiece that holds the curb (on the left side). Looks...

No offense, but tightening a noseband, imho, only increases grinding and/or anxiety. Getting to the root cause of the grinding is the only answer, not muffling the sound.

Thanks Thomas1. I will look into these books. I'm very picky about driving whips and in-hand whips and figured I'd rather make my own (and some folks want me to make some for them too). I use just...

Thanks buck22 and goodhors! I will pursue your suggestions. You never realize how hard it is to obtain these odds and ends until you try it yourself!!

Hello, I think I want to try making my own, custom whip. I have access to a family member's farm where wild bamboo grows, and years ago I made some in-hand whips for schooling youngsters before work...

To the OP or anyone else who has concerns or doubts about the way a horse is being ridden...trust your gut! Would you allow your child, dog or horse to be treated in a manner that makes you cringe?...

I had a Duett Fidelio for my 36cm PRE tank. He had average withers but a flat back. For about $1700, the Duetts (many models to choose from) are great and they'll send you 2-3 models to try if you...

After riding my trainer's Luso stallions, I couldn't get them off my mind. I've started/trained a TB, WB and PRE. After saving and saving, I finally got an imported Lusitano 2 years ago. He's...

My previous horse choked on alfalfa cubes fed chest high. So I started feeding from a rubber ground feeder and soaked the alfalfa in double the amount of water for about 45 min/1hour beforehand. So 2...

Horses are designed to eat small quantities off the ground. When we feed grain or concentrates that they can gobble from wall feeders that are chest high or higher, this 'can' allow food to go down...
