Because all of the ropes are interconnected with the pulleys, even when the horse relaxes through its topline, drops its head, whatever, there is never any "give" or release and it continues to pull...

I think mine are about 38 years old now - seriously. I have to admit, though, that I would never ride in any stirrup pad except for cheese graters - once you go graters, you never go back . . .
I...

GREAT! good set up for success. Don't worry about being wiggly - that comes from getting broke under tack - takes time. The most important thing is that when you're on, horse MUST go forward no...

They stay in, they are super cheap, easy to find. Just need to either spray paint them black, or take a sharpie and make them black all over.
Horses can't shake them out - never had one of them...

In the hunter ring, you will see the truly talented riders on the athletically gifted horses do what ever they can to get out of their horse's way to let the horse jump the jump - that usually means...

Go to the Walmart or Target and buy the little cat toy foam balls - yes they are in bright colors, but they cost about 25 cents each. Then spray them with the black spray that you can use on horse's...

If that was my horse/pony, I would have done things far different. I would have lunged the pony in the morning, when quiet and few horses around, just to burn that nervous extra energy - a good romp...

You have lots of good advice here. I think you have to conclude that for your program, it's too much pony for this child at this point in time, so you have to make a choice between: 1) keep the...

I agree with this comment. I show my mare in a D ring snaffle, no martingale. You will NEVER be penalized to show without one, and judges like seeing the horse that doesn't need one. My mare...

Rub, rub, Rub on them - more effective after you work because of the body heat. This is not just great for their coat, but also good massage work!
Keep them comfortably blanketed to hold in heat...

I've bought my share of 5 yo prospects! They should be w/t/c with lead changes "in there" but I don't expect them to be auto - just confirmed that the horse can do them. I would hope that the horse...

I have a ton of long crazy hair - sometimes it's curly, sometimes it's straight.
I use one of the heavy duty "thicker" hair nets.
I put the hair net on so it's on my forehead in front, under...

I agree with all of this - I've had horses for which this program has WORKED because it has created a situation where you can reinforce the right type of behavior. In the beginning you HAVE to get...

Love my Tad Coffin - bought new in 2007. Soft and cushy. I have knee flaps, but not the knee and thigh blocks. I like how I sit in it - comfortable on my seatbones.

So what? Not so severe that it didn't stop him from continuing to compete and put himself AND HIS HORSES at risk during competition, presumably because he had recovered and was fit enough to do so....

You might have to bend in the "wings" to get them into the stirrup, and use pliers to then bend the wings around your stirrup.

As a mid 40's rider who has done the 3'6" pretty recently (Zone HOY in 2006) and starting over with a greenie, I can tell you that the difference between the ride at 3' and 3'6" is a big gap. ...

What ever you decide to do - get your deal with the sales barn in writing in terms of who pays board, expenses, show fees, commissions, etc. and how that is reconciled when the pony sells. Several...

Don't bang a tail on a horse that shows in the hunters.
Just don't do it. Full, long, and natural is preferred. I don't mind a wig as long as it isn't blatantly obvious, and even those should...

just make it really dark - if it's brown, it should be DARK brown, not light brown. You want this to blend in and be as inconspicuous as possible.
Keep the glitter, silver, pink trim, and other...

and maybe take the ring off if it is visible.

Get a tail from your braider - it will match the best, and be the most natural for attaching into the tail. My braider will make a tail that can be worn without braiding the tail down, so it's nice...

What ever suggest above works, make sure you do it regularly - at least once a week, even in the winter. The key is to keep up on the stains on the horse and in the tail, and not let them "set."
